Beautiful but dangerous. He dominates our local pond, defending his territory and his mate sitting on her eggs. He'll attack any other living being in the area. But isn't he beautiful ? Can't blame him, there's not enough room for all the breeding birds on this small area.

In the early days of winter, clouds dominate the sky for around the first half hour after sunrise.

When you think of the Netherlands, it is easy to picture never-ending fields of brightly coloured flowers. Many of the country’s most famous artists have portrayed the flower fields of the Netherlands in their work, and these fields are just as spectacular when they are seen in real life. However, these flower fields are more than just aesthetically beautiful: they are also economically important to the country. A significant proportion of the country’s agricultural exports are derived from the sale of freshly cut flowers, bulbs and mature plants, and the Netherlands contributions to the flower industry are so significant that they make up around two-thirds of the world’s total flora sales and completely dominate the European marketplace. Thanks to highly efficient supply chains, it is actually possible to buy flowers in New York which were freshly cut in the Netherlands that morning!

One and half kilometre north of the city of Chios, in the wider area of Tampakika, an old craft industry zone, dominate four restored windmills ( locals though call the area as the three mills ). Alongside with others too that used to exist there, served the needs of the neighbouring tanneries (tampakika), where was occuring massive leather processing.

This is the sunset at the lake a few minutes earlier than yesterdays upload when the pink dominated the colours and floated like liquid in the still water.

We rarely have magnificent sunsets but have had two in a row. Last night, while the Sherpa was watching the footy on TV, they showed the beautiful sky colour. He said to me, do your realise there is another amazing sunset? By the time I got out the front door, it had pretty much turned to that spent grey, where the clouds are exhausted of all colour.

Mount Nemrut (Nemrut Dagi - 2150m)) dominates a vast area. At the top is a mound of stones piled artificially (+50m), which probably lies the tomb of King Antiochus. He ruled the kingdom Kommagena between 64 - 38 BC. Feeling related to the gods and heroes of the Greco-Persian, ordered them to carve giant statues. They were set on top around the cone of stones. With time, the heads of those statues were separated from their powerful bodies and in this state found them in 1881, Karl Puchstein geodesist.

The entire hill was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987.

The Church of San Ildefonso is a Baroque-style church located in the center of the historic center of Toledo, Spain. It is also known as the Jesuit Church and is consecrated to Saint Ildefonso of Toledo, patron saint of the city and Father of the Church.

Located between San Román Street and Alfonso XII Street, the church faces northwest-southwest, with its front facade facing Toledo Cathedral. The interior of the church, with its main nave shaped like a Latin cross, is large and white. The nave's high dome over the crossing stands out. In the transept are two large Baroque altarpieces. Of these, originally from the now-vanished Church of San Juan Bautista, one is Saint Joseph the Worker with the Child, a work by Germán López Mejía; and the other is The Baptism of Christ, by the artist Alonso de Arco and dated 1702. On both sides of the main nave are connected rows of four smaller chapels each, profusely decorated in Baroque and Rococo styles. The chapels on the northeast side of the building, in order from the transept, are dedicated to Our Lady of Fatima, Saint Francis Xavier, the Most Holy Christ Crucified, and Saint Francis Borgia. On the southwest side are those dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows, Our Lady of Sorrows, Saint Ignatius of Loyola, and Christ of the Martyrs. In one corner of the temple is the octagonal chapel where the church's relics are kept and venerated. With dark red walls and crowned by its own small dome, this chapel also houses the figure of Our Lady of Socorro, also a work by Germán López Mejía. Dominating the nave behind the main altar, the Church of San Ildefonso features a trompe l'oeil altarpiece, a fresco painting by Alejandro and Luis González Velázquez depicting the Virgin's descent upon Saint Ildefonso for the imposition of the chasuble. Beneath the altarpiece, adorned with architectural illusionism and behind the altar, is a gilded wooden tabernacle featuring a carving of the crucifixion. Throughout the nave are fourteen statues dedicated primarily to the apostles, sculpted by Germán López Mejía, including one of the altarpieces and the Virgin of Socorro.

The exterior of the dome, due to its size and the location of the church, is one of the highest points in Toledo, along with the Cathedral of Santa María and the Alcázar, from which it offers remarkable views, as are the towers, which are open to visitors. In one of the towers, three bronze bells can be seen. Several notable decorations can be seen on the façade. Above the original main door, which is still preserved, is a bas-relief depicting, like the main altarpiece, the Descent of the Virgin Mary upon Saint Ildefonso, a work by Diego Rodríguez de Luna. Above it is the stained-glass window, and around them are five statues, made by Mattia Carmannini and Félix Bambi, whose niches are flanked by four tall Corinthian columns. On the façade, in homage to the brothers Pedro and Estefanía Manrique, is the coat of arms of the Manrique family of Castile.

In the Ochavo, the remains of Juan de Mariana and Jerónimo de Ripalda rest, brought from the now-defunct Colegio de San Eugenio.

The lower summit on the mountain is called the Hole In The Mountain. Breckenridge Mountain lies in the Greenhorn Mountains which is part of the southern Sierra Nevada Range. Oak trees grow near the road while the mountainsides are dominated by pinyon pine.

As all of my cameras were pointed towards the supercell showing all that rotation. I really didn't pay attention to the storm that was coming in from the due north, until I paused to look that way.

2nd Storm was almost on top of my location. Luckily it was moving to the southeast & that meant I had a little time before the storm moved directly over.

This 2nd storm was outflow dominate. Producing this incredibly photogenic shelf cloud as in slow crept toward the city of Kearney.

This storm just kept getting photographically better by the minute. I had to flip 180s for a few mins as both storms was producing some insane storm photography!

Mt. Horn (404 m) in Snæfellsnes in W-Iceland. The geology here is dominated by a rock-type that is formed in volcanic eruptions under glacier - such eruptions produce a subglacial "soup" of water, ash and bits of rock, that sink to the bottom, and later gets cemented into a hard rock resembling sandstone. The geological term for this is hyaloclastite, a rare rock type that could be said to be volcanic, sedimentary and metamorphic.

Had to find a better place due to where the storm was coming in from. I had reposition myself right next to the High School football field. Long extended ditch that has a small roadway. Couldn't have asked for a better open sky than this.

This storm was moving rather slowly about 10 mph to the due north almost northwest. Outflow dominate, simply meaning this had nice outflow. A shelf cloud on the outer rim of this storm as it approached. B E A U T I F U L!

The visual impression of Illinois’ agricultural landscapes is one of expansive openness, where the sky meets the earth in an unbroken line, punctuated only by the occasional farmhouse, silo, or grove of trees along waterways. Sometimes, the trees are part of a more extensive woodland interspersed with agricultural land. This combination, often called agroforestry, integrates trees and shrubs into crop and livestock systems that support a diverse range of plant and animal species.

Generally, it is a landscape dominated by monoculture crops, primarily corn and soybeans, stretching across the horizon in neat, orderly rows. The area is predominantly flat with gently rolling hills, and the soil is exceptionally rich, thanks to thousands of years of organic matter accumulation from deep-rooted prairie plants. This has made Illinois one of the most productive agricultural states in the United States.

Mount Fitz Roy dominates the skyline above the small town of El Chalten. This is the first of two mornings we were up and out pre-dawn to greet the mountain as the first light of dawn began to illuminate the scene.

Fog had dominated the area all morning, lifting as the sun began to burn through it in the early afternoon. My wife and I found this almost hidden cove just as light pierced through the dense haze that hung just offshore. I snapped a few shots, posting one several months ago. This one, however, came out with more light and deeper colors.

I hope your week has gone well. And as always, thank you for stopping by.

Uçhisar is dominated by a 60-metre-high 'castle' which is actually a rock formation visible over a wide distance. Uçhisar Kalesi (Uçhisar Castle) is crisscrossed by numerous underground passageways and rooms, which are now mostly blocked or impassable but which served as residential areas and, perhaps, cloisters in Byzantine times. Perhaps around 1,000 people once lived in the castle although it is no longer inhabited today. It is open to the public and offers fine views from its summit.

Many fairy chimneys can be seen in and around Uçhisar, One of them houses a Jandarma (police) post.

The only rock-cut church inside Uçhisar is the sixth-century Church of St Basil which is inside a rock cone and not very easy to access.

With the timeworn but delightful station buildings dominating the frame, GBRf 'Shed' 66796 approaches the level-crossing at East Farleigh station with the 10.39am Colnbrook - Grain Oil Terminal discharged aviation fuel tankers (6O08).

The train is top-and-tailed from Tonbridge, presumably to facilitate the shunting needed to access the terminal from the mainline. In this instance the tailing locomotive was GBRf 'Shed' 66774.

East Farleigh lies on the Medway Valley Line between Strood and Paddock Wood, and I'd spotted the characterful station buildings and box on the journey out. Luckily I was able to get back from Strood quickly enough to bag this as soon as I realised the train was ready to leave Tonbridge Yard - now some 50 minutes behind schedule prompting me to think it might not actually leave that day.

Even without the station buildings it's a lovely location lying a stone's throw from the river and at the bottom of a steepish hill which starts immediately to the right of the crossing. More than a few cars took it faster than was prudent - and quite a few front sills scraped the road surface as they did! As ever I needed a bit of luck regards the light, and thankfully the sun played ball just at the right time.

This cooling tower for coal generated power dominates the landscape in this city on the edge of Lake Michigan. Though it appears to be a nuclear energy plant there have never been any of these in Indiana. But one source I found seems to indicate that this is what it was intended to be when it was constructed:

"Fun fact: that plant was originally designed to be a nuclear site, hence the huge concrete cooling tower. There were supposed to be 2 more towers.

An environmentalist from Chesterton almost single handedly convinced the state of Indiana that Nipsco was not doing their due diligence regarding environmental and human population impacts.

The state agreed. As a result, the project went millions over budget and time. Nipsco ended up redesigning the site to be a fossil fuel plant."

www.reddit.com/r/Indiana/comments/5tq293/cooling_tower_in...

When I approached this tower to get a photo I was surprised that the site was dominated, not just by the huge edifice but by the distinct sound of falling water. It echoed throughout the neighborhood and off of the houses nearby. At one point I could see from across the railroad tracks that there was indeed water falling inside the structure toward the bottom. Apparently this is the source of the cooling process.

Then there's this:
