I've been wanting to post this shot for some time now. This IS Winter from the Dolphin Tale movie. If you ever get the chance to visit Clearwater Florida I would recommend going to the aquarium there to see ALL of the sea life that this place rescues!

The Clearwater Marine is not your typical aquarium. Focused on rescue and rehabilitation of injured marine wildlife, the aquarium was the backdrop from Dolphin Tale and Dolphin Tales 2.

I mean, who can resist cute dolphins?

Clearwater Marine Aquarium, Clearwater, FL. Winter and Hope were in the Dolphin Tale movies. Winter is the dolphin closest to the camera without her prosthetic tail attached.

A huge perk (amongst *many*) of living in Irvine are the Movie Nights. Now that Summer has started we have outdoor movie nights every other weekend it seems!

Granted many other cities in the US have outdoor Movie Nights, but we have the climate to go with it. It was a balmy 65F when the Sun went down and *zero* bugs to bother us, as its extremely arid and cool where we live (all our water is piped in). Most other places would probably be 85F with Ten Zillion bugs going aflitter, or it would be raining ;-)

Now this is a unique shot in that it is a panoramic stitch from my Sony NEX-7 taken at high-res (look at larger sizes to see what I mean). It is truly amazing that I can scan a scene with a camera and have it automatically stitch 10-15 shots into one Pano. How far tech has come in such a short time...

Handheld panoramic shot taken of the crowds with my Sony NEX-7 of the Irvine Police department's D.A.R.E 'Movie Night' feature film: 'Dolphin's Tale'.

Irvine, California.

****Seriously...go and view 'Original' size to see how amazing-a-job the automatic in-camera stitching did in this low-light environment.

Winter was rescued near Mosquito Lagoon at the age of 3 months in 2005. An abandoned crab trap line was wound tightly around her tail. The trap cut off her circulation and caused tissue death. Her flukes came of in pieces. She also lost two vertebrae. Contrary to the liberties taken by the movie Dolphin Tale, her tail was NOT amputated. She does not need to wear the artificial tail at all times in order to benefit. In fact, wearing it for too long begins to chafe her skin. It is a device that has not yet been perfected.

Winter turns on her charm during a show at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium July 14, 2014. Since Winter’s rescue and the making of Dolphin Tale, the movie, crowds are growing and the facility is expanding. Aquarium attendance has tripled, from 250,000 to 750,000 people a year.

I took my youngest to Clearwater Marine Aquarium on Wednesday since all he's talked about since seeing a Dolphin Tale is seeing the "real" Winter. So we did :)

Winter and her trainer showing a sign of true beauty :)

If anyone can tell me which trainer this is I would love it! I can't tell by the top of her head lol

Trainer Brooke Bowersox plays with Hope July 14, 2014 at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Hope had been rescued in December, 2010, a bottlenose dolphin calf trying to nurse from her deceased mother, very near where Winter had been rescued five years and one day earlier. Hope arrived at the aquarium the day of the wrap-up party for the filming of Dolphin Tale. The two now share pools and play space.
