Dolphins are part of the family of toothed whales that includes orcas and pilot whales. They are mammals and breathe through a blowhole on the top of their head. Dolphin coloration varies, but they are generally gray in color with darker backs than the rest of their bodies. Most dolphin species have a long lifespan. It is estimated that some individuals may have lived for more than 100 years. Diet includes fish, squid and crustaceans.
I took this picture shortly after my wife probably saved someones life last weekend.
We were on our walk back to Boardwalk from Epcot after watching Illuminations and saw two really inebriated ladies going the same way (seriously- they were hammered and could barely walk) and my wife overheard them talking about how they still had to drive home. Anyway- where the sidewalk split they staggered toward the Beach Club so instead of going back to our hotel we followed them. They would stop every fifty feet or so to lean on each other and were oblivious that we were walking next to them and waiting with them at each stop. They went into the Beach Club by the pool and slowly through the hotel until it became obvious they were following the signs trying to locate the lobby- so we went on ahead. We found a guy in the lobby who looked like some kind of manager and explained the situation to him- and said they needed to intervene and not let these ladies get into a car. Sure enough- a minute later the ladies made it to the lobby and headed right for the parking lot. The CM we spoke to had already rounded up someone else to help him and they went out to talk to the ladies- he came back in a few minutes later to tell us thank you and that they would help them with some alternate transportation.
They were being quite the spectacle and lots of people were pointing and staring at them- and to be fair maybe we were the only ones who heard them talking about driving- but I was very proud of my wife for jumping into the situation. I think the easy thing to do is to just roll your eyes and go about your business but she was determined not to let them get into a car- I guanantee if Disney had not responded she would have been between them and their car calling them a cab or something. But Disney did the right thing too- and we walked back to Boardwalk the other way and I got to grab this picture of The Dolphin.
I really appreciate their intelligence and their smile... but those demonic puppet eyes...
