No flowers quite yet, and certainly no fruit, but these plants are getting bigger. They seem quite happy and healthy. For sure, they recovered from their infestation and the amputation of leaves that followed.

CCTV's Project Documentary class shooting at BU lab on Aprl 28th, 2007. Photo includes: Jamie O'Brien
Deep, contrasting shadows and harsh, directional sunlight carve out an intimate scene against a weathered, peeling white wall in an open-air market. Two young musicians, immersed in their craft, sit side-by-side playing traditional Andean pan flutes, commonly known as zampoñas or sikus. The atmosphere is steeped in the rich cultural heritage of Northern Argentina, where the rhythmic, reedy breath of the flutes likely cuts through the ambient noise of the surrounding vendor stalls. The photographer masterfully utilizes the intense midday light to isolate the subjects, allowing the deep shadows to swallow the background distractions and focus the viewer's eye squarely on the act of playing. A shallow depth of field softly blurs the foreground elements, consisting of vibrant, heavy woven textiles, drawing immediate attention to the central figure illuminated in a crisp white t-shirt. To his right, his companion, partially obscured in the cooling shade and wearing a colorful bucket hat, echoes the musical notes in a shared, unspoken rhythm. Surrounding them are the classic staples of a regional artisan market, including stacks of brightly colored hats—pink, denim, and dark wool—piled high on makeshift wooden tables. The rustic texture of the crumbling wall behind them tells a silent story of long exposure to the harsh Andean elements, contrasting beautifully with the smooth bamboo pipes of their handmade instruments. This candid, documentary moment vividly captures the living traditions of the region, transforming a simple commercial space into a spontaneous stage for ancestral music. Ultimately, the image evokes a profound sense of timelessness, grounding the viewer in the authentic, sensory realities of high-altitude Argentine life. This image is a collaborative production by Samuel Jeffery and Audrey Bergner for Project 23.
