Wie kann sie aussehen, die soziale Fantasie? Der 1973 in Chicago geborene Theaster Gates hat da genügend Ideen. Mithilfe von Teilnehmern aus Arbeitsförderungsmaßnahmen aus Chicago und Kassel hat er das seit den 1970er Jahren verfallene Hugenottenhaus in ein inspirierendes Gemeinschaftslabor verwandelt. Hier wird gewohnt, gegessen, diskutiert, Jazz gespielt.

120 cuttings from a book – black-and-white pictures with explanatory subtitles. Looking at these small cutouts (hung at different levels of the wall) feels like looking through a camera lens yourself. Supported by the descriptions of these observations you can sense a story behind every captured moment. The Guidebook: “Ondák does not provide an alternative to reality; rather, he gives the audience a key with which to access and identify the variety of observations and interpretations that reality offers.”
