Coreus marginatus, commonly called the dock bug, is a species of squash bug. It is a speckled brown insect with a broad abdomen, and is common in most parts of Europe. It is often found in dense vegetation, such as hedgerows and wasteland, where it mainly feeds on the leaves and seeds of docks and sorrels. When touched, a brown liquid is excreted that smells very bad and is very difficult to remove.

My oldest son posing with two members of the M/V Algosteel while docked in South Chicago. We assisted the cook with running an errand on the "east side". The boys were kind enough to invite us aboard for a spell. I hope they're all happily retired now in Newfoundland. August 09, 2003.
