I have always been interested in visiting the DMZ. In 2017 I took a week long trip from China to South Korea. Of course I had to take an organized tour to the DMZ.

It was very hazy and there was some recent tensions between the North and South, so we were unable to go to the Reunification Buildings.

Seeing the fortified border was very surreal.

Looks like two cloud systems wanna rumble.

A look at the demilitarised zone between South and North Korea. The DMZ starts beyond the fence, which is 2km away from the border at the 38th parallel.

The bridge is the Imjingak railway bridge, where formerly North Koreans could move south.

A North Korean soldier and a South Korean Military Policeman (back to camera) face off just a few feet from one another at the border between North Korea and South Korea in the Joint Security Area of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). At this location, where North Korean leader Kim Jong-un stepped into South Korea for his historic April 2018 summit with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, the border between the two countries is nothing more than a low concrete curb.

Commuter DC electric trainsets of the ED2T (Electric train Demikhovskiy 2-th modification with dynamic brake) project were being built by the JSC DMZ (Demikhovo Machinebuilding Plant; Russian: ОАО ДМЗ, Демиховский машиностроительный завод) in 1993-1999 yy with total production of 54 (549 cars). Then they were replaced by new project - ED4 with all russian electric equipment. ED2T design was in general based on the ER24 original project of the perspective improved trainset developed but never built in Soviet Latvia by the RVR (Rīgas Vagonbūves Rūpnīca, Riga, Latvia) with some new electric equipment but main electric equipment was still made in Latvia. ET2 project from Torzhok of Tver based on more archaic ER2 design of Latvian RVR competed for the leadership. Really the ED2T presented in Saint Petersburg at August of 1993 was the first electric trainset built in Russia with ET2 prototype was made slightly later. Ironically in The October Railway ET2 and its improved ET2M version dominates. On the base of DC electric ED2T DMZ developed AC electric trainset ED9T built from 1995 till 2016.

Imjingak (Hangul: 임진각; Hanja: 臨津閣), and sometimes in English called the Imjingak "resort", is a park located on the banks of the Imjin River in the city of Paju, South Korea. The park has many statues and monuments regarding the Korean War. There is also a restaurant, an observation deck, a pool in the shape of the Korean peninsula, and even a small amusement park.

The park was built to console those from both sides who are unable to return to their hometowns, friends and families because of the division of Korea.

Imjingak is where the "Freedom Bridge" lies. The Freedom Bridge crosses the Imjin river. It is a former railroad bridge which was used by repatriated POWs/soldiers returning from the North. It is more famous, however, and until 1998 was the only point of egress in the western sector other than Liberty Bridge (which was controlled by the South Korean Army) onto the DMZ, and the only direct link to Camp Greaves, Liberty Bell, and Panmunjom. This is not to be confused with the "bridge of freedom" which is merely an access bridge to the main span that allowed the one way southbound traffic to pass by while northbound traffic stood waiting its turn to cross; it now crosses a stream adjacent to the Imjin river and connects with the North-South railway.

The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ; Hangul: 한반도 비무장지대; Hanja: 韓半島非武裝地帶) is a highly militarized strip of land running across the Korean Peninsula. It was established at the end of the Korean War to serve as a buffer zone between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) and the Republic of Korea (South Korea). The DMZ is a de facto border barrier that divides the Korean Peninsula roughly in half. It was created by agreement between North Korea, China and the United Nations in 1953. The DMZ is 250 kilometres (160 miles) long, and about 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) wide.

Within the DMZ is a meeting-point between the two nations in the small Joint Security Area near the western end of the zone, where negotiations take place. There have been various incidents in and around the DMZ, with military and civilian casualties on both sides. Several tunnels are claimed to have been built as an invasion route for the North Koreans.

In the front: North Korea.

In the back: South Korea.

Only NK soldiers were there on this day. SK and the americans who are on the other side tend to monitor everything with CCTV.

Crossing the border = being shot without warning!
