The outstretched tongue of Kali distinguishes her from all other gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon. There are many goddesses who, like Kali, are naked and associated with blood and death, including Chandi, Chamunda, Bhairavi and Bhagavati, but none stick out their tongue like Kali.
The fierce and intense form of Maa Kali, with her tongue out, signifies her readiness to protect and destroy any forces that threaten the divine order and the balance of the universe.
Some things that anger Goddess Kali are: 1 Cheating other people for your selfish material needs. 2 Developing false pride and having it. Ahankaar.
“Women have always cradled within their bodies secret mysteries of life, death, and rebirth and the healing, grounding, and balancing powers of our Mother in the Earth. We have held these mysteries sacred within us as we would carry babies in our wombs.”
― Elizabeth Eiler, Singing Woman: Voices of the Sacred Feminine
She walked among the trees, not as a visitor, but as something born of the same breath.
The forest pulsed quietly — alive, ancient, watching. She paused, and the world seemed to inhale with her.
She became one with the moment. No past, no future. Only now.
She was not separate from the roots or the wind. Her steps echoed the dance of the cosmos — destruction, rebirth, silence, and song.
In that sacred balance, she remembered:
She is the forest.
She is the stillness.
She is the universe listening to itself.
We must try to remember everything, every movement, every stretch, every convulsion that made us how we move as we readily grow in our outer body that encompasses the planets, the suns and the moons in every other body that we touch, in every other mouth that we kissed, in every other language that we try to comprehend; for they are not the outside of a stranger, nor are they just images of our psyche, but the very being of ourselves, the dimensional levels of our very existence weaving colours in the tapestry of creation, yet the very non-existence of the template is proof of consciousness, of ascension, of Life.

It's gonna be a warm December
Makin' memories to last 'til next November
It's gonna be a warm, warm December
'Cause this holiday, I got you with me
As we cuddle up next to the fireplace
We'll be burnin' up our own flames
Hangin' like a thousand mistletoes
So I can kiss you everywhere you go
No, I didn't even make a list this year
'Cause everything I need is all right here
In those eyes (those eyes)
It might be freezin' outside
But it's gonna be a warm December
Makin' memories to last 'til next November
It's gonna be a warm, warm December
'Cause this holiday, I got you with me
Unwrap my love and open me up (open me up)
It's the season of givin', so let me give you what you want
(Let me give you what you want)
I didn't even make a list this year
'Cause everything I need is all right here
In those eyes
It might be freezin' outside
But it's gonna be a warm December
Makin' memories to last 'til next November (oh, makin' memories)
It's gonna be a warm, warm December (December)
'Cause this holiday, I got you with me
Oh (oh)
Oh (oh)
Oh (oh)
I got you with me
Mm
(Oh) Mm
(Oh)
I got you with me
"The Divine Feminine is the Creatrix muse—
sensuality flowing as art, as sound, as skin.
She transforms through euphoric beauty,
creates worlds through raw emotions,
and speaks in the language of curves, silk, and soul.
Her power is not in force,
but in desire and magnetism,
in the invitation to feel, to open, to become."

It is common to think of ancient wild bristlecones in terms of bonsai - the natural perceived as the converse of the contrived (only bigger), the ineffable perceived as the material.
Bonsai is a Japanese term dating from the early 19th century. Penjing, the Chinese term and practice, preceded it by two-thousand years. Penjing became popular during uncertain, socially tumultuous, times when people yearned to return to, or reconnect to, nature. Where that was not possible, they brought nature to themselves by collecting wild trees and cultivating them at home. Eventually, a long period of social stability returned, and penjing begin to flourish as a popular art form. By that time, as these things inevitably go, the wild trees were all but gone. Yet demand remained, and was met by the development of methods of mass cultivation.
To this day, penjing trees with a wild pedigree are coveted and treasured above all others by aficionados - a kind of lust being in place, there is, no doubt, a black market. The wild bristlecone pictured here is less than a foot tall and is probably over one-hundred years old - the oldest cultivated bonsai being about five-hundred years. Of classic penjing/bonsai proportion and style, this bristlecone has been shaped only by the raw elements. It is the epitome of wild...yet, vulnerable - a price always on its figurative head.
As penjing evolved into an art form, rules were developed. The rules were meant to show the way to an aesthetic, contemplative, balance and focus. Penjing was - and is - not meant to be a cute, saccharine, miniature of nature, but a harmonious connection to the deepest Jungian archetypes of the natural world. These rules take the form of opposites - dualities - in simple, asymmetric, equilibrium - each a potential complementary unity:
Denseness/Sparseness
Roughness/Meticulousness
Firmness/Gentleness
Heaviness/Lightness
Substance/Emptiness
Boldness/Restraint
Scene/Emotion
Individuality/Entity
Dominance/Subordination
(In this relatively recent era of the Patriarchy, all of these rules are easily misunderstood as irreconcilable dualities - subsets of Masculine/Feminine, Us/Them - not, as intended, the infinite continuum of transcendant Yin/Yang.)
In the elemental structure of penjing, rock is skeleton, water is blood, and tree (or trees) flesh. Penjing strives for a tree that has the austerity, frugality, and rugged simplicity resultant from hardship and struggle. Bonsai, more sensuous and rhythmic, can possess the delicate musicality of fractals or windchimes. Like all material art, both are meant to open a way to the esoteric, nonverbal, perceptions and workings of the inner, individual, human mind - a silent place of subtle silhouette and shadow. There is, in other words, an intent that transcends intent - the suggestion of a harmonious unity of the conscious and the subconscious. To describe or ascribe any meaning of art to others is, in many ways, to miss this point, and can become a form of subjugation. If language were a complete tool, there would be no need for art. But because language is not complete, the totality of your perceptions is yours...and yours alone.
Add exuberant and nurturing wild Nature to this mix, and you may end up, in the sleepy morning light of an ancient bristlecone grove, with a transient, elusive, image of a Minoan Earth-Mother Goddess, sacred serpent of rebirth and all creation in her hand - a direct descendent of peaceful goddess cultures many thousands of years old. The Divine Feminine - now but a seeming shadow - greeting yet the sun's return, until all days shall end...
Sometimes it can seem as if Nature is trying to remind us of something we still understand, but cannot articulate.

12/ 52 self-portrait challenge
The sky looked promising so i encouraged Marco and Kiara to accompany me to shoot this image on a hill around Windhoek.
When we got there the rain started and some serious thunder and lightning began. We sat in the car for about 15 minutes as i was reluctant to leave and cancel my plan. It goes without saying that my family think i am a fringe lunatic and should they survive yet another of my exploits they will carefully document it in some corner of their mind for future reference.
Once i noticed the lightning easing we ran up the hill - camera, red cloth, tripod, umbrella, etc..what a sight it must have been.
I set up the camera and exposure, got Kiara to pull the red cloth behind me and Marco pressed the shutter on command.
The image above a combination of at least three shots, similar to layer stacking to ensure the correct light, balance and drama could be drawn out in this scene.
Although the original sky was dramatic it did not create the magic i wanted so i added the galaxy for special emphasis. The title then came as i started the careful processing in PS. The dove, a metaphor for earth and heaven and all between.
Nic was quite worried when we returned home thinking we have been struck by lightning or ended up in some other trouble..oh well, he should have come along!
I hope you like it.

I had the honor of collaborating with an incredible florist called Ace (IG: @aceinfullbloom) in Houston.
We worked with two stunning models, and the first in this set features the lovely Danielle Nicole. She’s such an inspiring muse and an absolute dream to create with - highly recommend her if you’re a photographer seeking someone to bring your vision to life 💕
I wonder if it’s age, experience, or simply the pursuit of capturing the otherworldly, photography for me is a storytelling gateway, a portal to faraway worlds where the sacred feminine and nature coexist in harmony, embraced and protected 🌿🌱
This year marks a decade of honing my craft, and yet, every time I share my work, I still feel those familiar nerves. Maybe this is a lifetime’s work in progress
As much as I’ve always loved playing with color, I confess finding the right balance in tones is nearly always challenging 😅 Lately, I’ve noticed my attraction shifting toward more vibrant palettes. If you’ve checked out my latest color toning collections (Fine Art, Location, & Studio), you’ll see just how much more explorative my color choices have become - www.onlythecurious.com
For the first two images, I used the Celestial Backdrops from my store. Digital backdrops really help me bring some magic to the studio work. It’s honestly a little addictive!

In this course, I share how to break free from the limitations of traditional posing :)
I had this idea floating around in my head for about two weeks or more.
All the flowers and plants are real and were purchased just before the shoot. As it is winter here our garden did not exactly resemble Eden.
I have cyclamens, begonia's, kalanchoe's, daisy's and all sorts of other floral delights. Lara-Lyn was asked to lie on some yoga blocks and covered with earth. The flowers and plants were then planted around and over her body.
I don't think you can tell from her expression that she was getting cold, she is such a professional to work with.
I am captivated by the mother earth/Gaia/ connection to nature idea and wanted to realise a portrait that embodies this for me.
Today Nic is planting our garden.

"The Seraphim’s Descent"
They called her Lunaria, the Fallen Star, a celestial being who once danced among the constellations, her silver hair flowing like the Milky Way itself. She was neither angel nor demon—something in between, a whisper of forgotten divinity.
Betrayed by the heavens, she descended to the mortal realm, her once-holy wings no longer bound by the laws of purity. The ram’s horns curled upon her head, a mark of rebellion, a crown of defiance. Her body, adorned with sacred ink, told the story of a soul too wild to be caged, too fierce to bow.
She wandered the edges of existence, searching for meaning in the echoes of moonlit tides. Mortals trembled at her beauty, at the piercing gaze that held the weight of eternity. Some worshiped her. Others feared her. But none could deny the power she carried—the storm of a goddess who had tasted both light and darkness and chosen neither.
She was her own force, her own legend.
A seraph with clipped chains, bound to nothing, free to burn or to heal.
And as the last rays of dusk bathed her skin in gold, she smirked.
For the heavens had lost their brightest star, and the earth…
The earth was just beginning to understand the depth of her power.

Oh let me always dance…
For that place inside filled with color and possibility
For that song which calls so unendingly
For that ache to connect with everything and everyone
For that willingness to smash stagnant belief systems
For that compassion which excludes no one from justice
For that surrender to the feminine divine
For that roar of a lion that permeates all endeavors
For that joy which holds complete trust in high aspirations
For that beauty which offers freely its gifts to an open world
For that sublime opportunity to set an example for the young
For that awareness that no one has ever or will ever be me
For that One Heart which animates every movement
For the poems soaring one after the other on the horizon
For that realization to never settled for a life of running away
For that world which unfolds in freedom, peace and unending grace

What good does it do to gripe about the world when we have not yet reveled in the delirious dance of life within ourselves? This journey generously unfolds and offers each moment to find the music which resonates with our desires and then to dance with abandon in those very songs. I keep meeting people who have no idea of why they do the things they do. A very wise teacher once called me on that and I've been exploring this theme in art and music ever since.
See you all in a few weeks. I'll be heading out West to see my mum and brother and let them spoil me for a while. :) Have fun "Flickr Dancing".

Moving to Houston and working with the talented creatives here has really opened my worlds. In this picture I can see my husband's influence in the perspective and selection choice.
Incidentally he assisted me in lighting this set :)
I love that we have photography as our shared passion. It's quite fun to grow together in life and creativity with one's best friend.
