Impossible to see the President. As expected, security very tight.
Numerous protestors across the street from the Hilton. They included a diversified group including those against the Keystone pipeline, pro-life people and Latino groups protesting the adminstration's deportation policies.
The general opinion in the Latino community is that the Dream Reform Act is nothing but a sham. Obama used it as a trick to help himself get re-elected. It also serves as a means by which the government collected names and other information on people that could be used against them in the future. It also helps reinforce the militarization of the border with Mexico.
As for the KXL tar sands pipeline, conservationists and environmentalists
fear that another oil disaster is inevitable given the shoddy and neglectful safety records of the oil companies. Tar sands is dilbit oil which means diluted bitumen. It is diluted because it is otherwise too thick to flow through a pipeline. It is literally tar and much harder to clean up after a spill.Three years ago there was a spill of dilbit oil in the Kalamazoo River near Marshall Michigan. As spills go, it apparently wasn't even that large, but it's still being cleaned up today.
And the taxpayers were on the hook for at least part of the expenses incurred by the President's trip. According to the Air Force, Air Force One costs $180,000 an hour to operate. The taxpayer foots the bill for security and anything else not related to politics. No estimates or information on the total cost.

The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. With a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft, just over half a mile) and a roof height (excluding antenna, but including a 244 m spire[2]) of 828 m (2,717 ft), the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure and building in the world. The building was opened in 2010 as part of a new development called Downtown Dubai. It is designed to be the centrepiece of large-scale, mixed-use development. The decision to construct the building is based on the government's decision to diversify from an oil-based economy, and for Dubai to gain international recognition.

Custom Welding Diversified, Inc- 772.879.6928
Port Saint Lucie, FL (April 13,2009) – Tommy and Sabrina Creel, Father and Daughter at Custom Welding Diversified, Inc., recently launched a new product known as the Boat Storage Stand.
This revolutionary product will aide and revitalize marinas and boat storage facilities. It will help reduce the costs that are involved when storing boats.
The Boat Storage Stands are SELF leveling, light weight, and made from a high quality aluminum alloy. The aluminum material gives the stand a long life span, and the ability to survive the brutality of salt water. The patented stand uses two movable arms to self level the boat as it is lowered onto the stand. When the boat is removed the arms automatically rise into position immediately ready for the next boat.
The company is impressed with the demand for the stands and will continue production.
Please visit the company’s website at www.Customweldingdiv.com for more information.

What Ichiran tells us about their ramen..........
At ICHIRAN we don’t diversify our menu, but concentrate only on Tonkotsu Ramen.
Ramen is offered in a wide range of types, from those based on soy sauce, salt, or miso paste, as well as varying broths like seafood-based broths or meat-based broths. The safety and satisfaction of our customers is our priority. That is why we only use the highest-in-quality products for the creation of our ramen. Our professionals are masters of the complicated techniques involved in ramen making, and they always pursue a higher level of exquisiteness for our customers.
Our mission is a quest for new ideas, a thorough search for new ways of bringing more delight to the palate of our customers.
ICHIRAN was the creator and the first to place spicy red sauce directly in the center of its ramen. We mix 30 kinds of ingredients with our own blended peppers as a base, and we age it for many days and nights. This allows for creating a wide flavor profile that is about more than just spiciness, making the ramen even richer in flavor.
A key part of ramen's taste is "dashi". Only four people working at ICHIRAN know the recipe. To protect this unique and secret recipe, the dashi is produced within a stringent system.
When we provide dashi to our customers at our shops, the moisture and drops of water that accumulate on the lid of the dashi pot is returned to the dashi so that it's perfect quality is continuously maintained.
Through many long years of work and research by our ramen experts, we have achieved a secret pork bone broth the delicious flavor of which has been fully brought to the fore.
Our pork-based broth is constantly monitored, simmered and skimmed to offer our customers the most authentic and flavorful tonkotsu broth without the strong aroma usually associated with it.
Our experienced artisans specially blend wheat flour to produce noodles tailored to the climate, temperature, humidity, and other conditions of the day. Every last detail -- even the protein content of the wheat -- is scrupulously checked, with the temperature of the water used being tweaked by the season.
The resulting noodles are then stored in special boxes to ensure they are not exposed to air until right before they go in the pot. Even during busy times, the shop only takes strictly limited quantities of noodles out to room temperature.
Furthermore, the temperature of the boiling pot is always maintained at a consistent level through the use of proprietary sensors. When hot water is added to the pot, it is carefully controlled in quantities of 110-150cc every ten seconds, ensuring that the water in the pot remains clean and stable.
Because noodles are delicate, we rinse them five times after they come out of the pot. Noodles rinsed more than this lose their flavor, something we would never want to subject our patrons to.

THE AGE OF FLOWERING PLANTS
ANGIOSPERM means "seed borne in vessel," while GYMNOSPERM means "naked seed," a reference to the lack of protective structure enveloping the seed. One reason that flowering plants were able to diversify so dramatically and spread during the Cretaceous and Cenozoic, or modern, the era was the evolution of new structures and tissues such as the carpel, a womb-like vessel that encloses angiosperm seeds and endosperm, a placenta-like tissue that nourishes the young plant as it develop within the seed, Today, angiosperm dominate terrestrial life on the planet. At an estimated 422,000 species, they compose by far the largest group of plants. They grow in greater range of environments, exhibits a wider range of growth habits, and display more variation in form than any living group of plants. In size, angiosperm range from tiny duckweed to eucaplytuses more than 330 ft (100 m) tall. The explosion of angiosperm diversity has gone hand in hand with the proliferation of insect, birds, and other animals that pollinate their flowers, disperse their fruits and seeds, and eat their leaves.

Despite my efforts to diversify the places I was taking photographs, sometimes it's best to shoot locally. So last June 25 I took about a dozen pix of Mulliken's downtown. On the whole it was an excellent set.
This wall is at the front of this building, which I discussed on April 28. It's holding up better at this end, but you gotta think the salt's not good for the walls.
==========
My first digital camera was an Olympus Camedia C-50 Zoom, which I purchased early in 2003. I'd been watching reviews, and knew that several companies were producing cameras I expected I'd like. I spent an hour or so comparing features, deciding that the C-50 was my best choice largely on the basis of its menu system and external controls. Basically it looked the most like a pro camera.
I used it hard for a couple years, then broke and replaced it (I'm not a gentle photographer, I fear). The C-50 I used last year was a replacement I picked up sometime because I saw a good price on eBay. This camera's not as good as my original, which had an upgraded ROM, but on the whole it's the camera I remember.
The "Commons" photo I posted to 366 Snaps shows this camera at its best; great depth of field and sharp focus. Its weaknesses center around speed; this is not a low-light camera, and it's not well-behaved if you're in a rush. The 3x zoom can be pretty limiting, too.
A good camera, really. I certainly never regretted purchasing it.
