Senior living is also further diversified into independent living and assisted living. Independent living refers to housing and communities for active seniors who are healthy and independent, while assisted living is for seniors who require varied levels of medical support, such as caregivers and nursing. There are other concepts like CCRC (Continued Care Retirement Communities) which include both independent and assisted living. However these are still very few in Australia.
The Pines Living homes are available for outright purchase based on the freehold model. The house/apartment is registered in your name and can be passed on to the legal heirs or sold at the prevailing market rates when you wish to. However, in case you are still working and wish to make an investment for post retired life, you can also rent out your dwelling through Pines Living to a third party as long as one of the residents is above the age of 50. A structured payment schedule plan linked to construction helps Premium Living for Seniors plan their investment.

Agroforestry is applied in oil palm plantations not only to diversify crops but also to increase farmers’ income during the waiting period before oil palm harvests. By integrating additional crops, farmers make better use of their land, improve soil health, and secure alternative sources of livelihood.

In Malawi, cooking demonstrations undertaken during farmer field days have facilitated the sharing of nutrition information on the
incorporation of potato and sweetpotato into family diets. This has increased the nutritional knowledge and improved child
feeding practices for the Malawian population. This is possible through the VISTA and RTC action projects funded by USAID and Irish Aid respectively.

Faculty and scholars, especially in the United States, are encouraged to diversify their learning materials, consider more inclusive approaches to content, and incorporate culturally-responsive examples in their courses. However, little guidance exists on how exactly to go about finding, evaluating and using materials and research from scholars belonging to underrepresented identities. Barriers exist to the participation of Black, Indigenous, and other peoples of color (BIPOC), women, differently abled, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. While programs exist to encourage greater participation in STEM by members of these groups, very few resources exist to help faculty incorporate these scholars’ work into their teaching and research. Challenges, including the need for scholars to self-identify, problematic and incomplete item metadata and inherent biases, also make it difficult for faculty to find appropriate materials, providing barriers both to underrepresented scholars and to those who seek to use their work.
The glaring gap in guidance for faculty has led to the development of the Representation in STEM open mini-course. It introduces faculty to the topic of representation in STEM and provides participants with statistics, resources, and opportunities to reflect. This open course fills a critical need in the discussion on representation in STEM as it equips librarians, faculty and graduate students with the tools to seek out and incorporate perspectives from underrepresented groups in their course materials, teaching, and research. It supports achievement of UN SDG 4, Quality Education, and EDS Priority action area 4, Empowering and Mobilizing Youth. This open mini-course lowers the barrier for faculty wishing to incorporate diverse and culturally responsive learning materials in their courses. OER are uniquely suited to enable the diversification of learning materials; increasing the voices and perspectives that students are exposed to in class (Clinton-Lisell 2021). Culturally responsive learning materials allow students to see themselves in the course content and in their discipline of study (Armstrong 2021). The Representation in STEM open course provides a foundation for faculty in STEM and beyond to incorporate more culturally responsive materials in the curriculum.
This poster will explore the ongoing development of the Representation in STEM course using a community-focused approach which incorporates feedback from faculty and student organizations throughout the development process. The poster details the course’s design, feedback mechanisms and challenges in identifying and using research created by underrepresented scholars. It will provide conference attendees the opportunity to interact with course developers, provide additional feedback on content, and even adopt it for use at their own institution.
