At nearly 8,000' Bryce Canyon is susceptible to every form of weather imaginable. The warm palette of colors that embody the walls, windows and hoodoos of Bryce fit the warm weather of summer to a tee.
When winter comes, however, with the occasional heavy snowfall, the cognitive dissonance of being surrounded by warm colored rocks topped by bright white snow in freezing cold temperatures adds to the surreal splendor that makes this place so magical.

This little beauty appeared at The Pixies just after I had re-filled all the bird feeders...All the usual little songbirds, blue-, great-, and coaltits, nuthatches and chaffinches, were having a feast when, suddenly, they all disappeared into the trees.
I was thrilled to have caught this image but the implications of her presence here are really quite chilling...Of course, she has to eat, too, but the wee birdies have absolutely no chance against these lethal talons and beak.
She left this perch very soon after arriving and the wee birdies soon resumed their eating and seed- and nut-gathering.

The confounding of reason to allow something more direct to come through. Lines of emotive energy and text denoting the ever-presence of attempted conceptualization ... all on a quiet Summer morning's walk.

Thank you peanut. No, his name is not peanut, it’s Cooper the juvenile Cooper’s hawk. Why thank the peanut? Couple of reasons. First, without the peanuts, this shot and many others would not have been possible for me to take in the comfort zone of my yard. Huh? Well, peanuts attract Jays and Jays attract …. Yes, you guessed it. Secondly, I am dealing with a bit of budgetary cognitive dissonance here. My dollar outlay for peanuts has reached new heights and is now my number one household expense. I spend more on peanuts than I do on gas (that’s both types of gas, the one for the truck and the heating kind for the house), phone, electricity (not combined, just individually), cable modem and tv package. There are of course benefits to this, mostly to the environment. It keeps me and my truck off the road polluting the atmosphere while taking pictures of Cooper in the yard instead of spending fruitless hours searching for him and his companions in the environs.
So, enjoy this shot and keep in mind how truly environmentally friendly it is even though produced by an Albertan.
By the way, it’s a juvie because he does not have the red eye that apparently can take up to four years to develop. I think I got that piece of wisdom from Don Delaney. It does not take me nearly that long to sport that red in the eye. One night of partying and …. maybe I should show Cooper.
And since this was taken on a Tuesday and it’s gone now, the choice is obvious. You are welcome Lou.

Sunrise light highlights the forms of sand dunes against a backdrop of desert mountains.
Some of my other recent Death Valley dunes photographs have featured a wild wind and sand storm — a very dramatic scene that was not easy to photograph. Here I switch to almost the opposite sort of mood in the dunes, the quiet moment when the first sunrise light comes to them. The light changes with incredible speed at this time of day, going from the soft blue tones of pre-sunrise to the bright and harsh daytime colors in moments. I made this photograph during the first moments of direct light, when the distant mountain remained almost entirely in shadow.
It is hard to convey the experience of the dunes at this moment. Sometimes it feels like there is a dissonance between the profound quiet and stillness and the rapidity of the visual changes. We continued to photograph a bit longer, then the magical light was gone.

In America now, we are very lucky indeed. We've had three different vaccinations (Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson) available to all people 12 and over for enough time for everyone to be fully vaccinated and yet we're still hovering around 50% for our vaccination rate and now the Delta variant is really causing some breakthrough infections of those already vaccinated and, of course, killing many people who are not vaccinated. In the midst of this, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) decided to apply some sort of bizarre honor system where only people who were unvaccinated would have to be masked indoors, which absolutely doesn't work because the same people who are anti-mask are the same people who are anti-vax. And, for the spaces and places that would enforce the vaccination, there's a whole industry now of fake vaccination cards people can show so they can continue to risk their lives and others.
At the end of the day, the people in my country just don't realize how good they have it and fall prey to spoiled entitlement and/or conspiracy theories. The cognitive dissonance required to still believe Coronavirus is a hoax even after our previous president, (demon Trump) actually contracted it is baffling and completely illogical.
Meanwhile, our leaders continue to fail us, ignoring the new Delta strain's capabilities to be spread easier outdoors easier, to be spread even within a vaccinated population because of a viral load 1000x that of the original strain, and because it only takes a couple of minutes or less vs. 15 minutes of exposure. So while our hospitals are getting filled up here in this country yet again, we're still having stadiums filled to capacity and large music festivals.

… based on the twelve major and minor notes in an octave in Western music as well as accompanying harmonic chords. But Beethoven would remind her about the power of dissonance–dissonance based on the Western music scale that is. How could the crazy complexities of the world's different music systems, tones, pitches, and rhythms–some quite ancient–possibly be harmonized?
If the world could sing in harmony it was only because the Western music system had spread in the modern world to just about everywhere.
She began to sing in a pop- jingle genre, “I’d like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. I'd like to hold it in my arms and keep it company.”
The sentiment might have been born of naïveté but it was also brought forth from love.
We interrupt the cavalcade of birds to recognize the advent of spring in Sugar Land, Texas. My neighborhood mandates 4 live oaks in every front lawn, which gives me cognitive dissonance every year. Live oaks, Quercus virginiana are--utterly wonderful--deciduous evergreens. In the spring, they drop last year's leaves just as the new buds appear. At about the same time, they produce enormous quantities of pollen, dusting every surface, and then drop the spent anthers along with the leaves.
Very weird for this Iowa boy to come outdoors in the warm spring and see the whole earth covered with fallen leaves and anthers. Fall comes in the Autumn, with crisp football weather, doesn't it? No, not here.
Any resemblance to the Minotaur of Greek myth is purely coincidental.

На мою думку, було би краще взагалі знести цей монумент, який спаплюжив київські пагорби, але, як тимчасове рішення, тепер все ж таки краще.
Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve just causes cognitive dissonance to me. How this enormous sand dune exits on the high Colorado Plateau (over 7500' in the San Luis Valley) at the base western base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range can be explained by geologists, but it simply doesn't resonate with my concept of Colorado's topography.
On a road trip through Colorado, my wife and I stopped here for a brief visit to check out the dunes up close. Since it was late in the day, we did not go sand sledding, but we did climb a remote slope on the eastern side of the dunes, which was far more difficult than one might imagine.
Seeing the gathering storm clouds and having a tight travel timeline, we decided to depart the park well before sunset, with a brief stop along the entrance road, where I photographed this lone tree looking back across the valley past the dunes toward Mount Herard and the rest of the Sangre de Cristo Range. 30 minutes later, the area was awash in rainstorms.

Eibenfrüchte in einem Brunnen.
Der Lindahl-Brunnen in Würzburg wurde vom Stadtgärtner Jöns Lindahl im Zuge der Umformung der städtischen Glacisanlagen zu einem modernen Ringpark 1880-1887 angelegt. Aufgrund von erheblichen Dissonanzen bei der Gestaltung des Landschaftsgartens mit den Würzburger Medien, der Bürgerschaft und dem Stadtrat und wohl auch aufgrund einer Nervenerkrankung, nahm sich Lindahl 1887 in unmittelbarer Nähe seines Brunnens das Leben. Zu seinen Ehren wurde der Brunnen später nach ihm benannt.

The Lindahl fountain in Würzburg was created by the city gardener Jöns Lindahl in the course of the conversion of the municipal glacis facilities into a modern ringpark 1880 - 1887. In 1887, due to considerable dissonance in the design of the landscape garden with the Würzburg media, the citizenship and the town council and probably also due to a nervous illness, Lindahlin committed suicide near his well. In his honour, the fountain was later named after him.
