Depeche Mode - Where's the Revolution
Depeche Mode are an English electronic band that formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex. The group consists of founders Dave Gahan (lead vocals, occasional songwriter since 2005), Martin Gore (guitar, keyboards, vocals, main songwriter since 1982), and Andy Fletcher (keyboards, bass guitar). Depeche Mode released their debut album Speak & Spell in 1981, bringing the band onto the British new wave scene. Original band member Vince Clarke (keyboards, guitar, main songwriter from 1980 to 1981), left the band after the release of the album, leaving the band as a trio to record A Broken Frame, released the following year. Gore took over the lead songwriting duties and, later in 1982, Alan Wilder (keyboards, drums, bass guitar, occasional songwriter) officially joined the band to fill Clarke's spot, establishing a line up that would continue for the next 13 years. Depeche Mode have been a trio again since 1995, when Wilder left.

This is not a german release it comes from the UK. On the label you see NBC instead of GEMA. NBC is a music copyright society in the UK. Popol Voh is mostly a Instrumental Band. Known also for some soundtracks! at Discogs - this is a very expensive thing in good conditions, like my LP!!

Review:
It has taken some time for the music of Ludomir Rozycki (1883-1953) to become available (at least outside of Poland) and I suppose it would be wrong to say that it is really generally accessible even now. It is a little bit curious, since his name is famous enough, and his music definitely worth reviving. Another Szymanowski (same generation) he isn't, but those who are interested in interesting and well-made byways of late romanticism should definitely investigate this composer. His opera Eros & Psyche dates from 1917 and is a "typical" fin-de-siècle work, but I suppose the libretto and its topics are more modernist than the music itself. Musically it reminds one somewhat of the music of Karlowicz, with elements of Respighi and perhaps Zemlinsky - and a dash of verismo - but there are traces of more modern elements as well. The music is not without originality, and out of the variegated influences Rozycki is able to construct a somewhat personal language with some striking themes and interesting harmonies. The result is a pretty engaging work; not a masterpiece perhaps, but certainly worth the attention of fans of fin-de-siècle opera (and who isn't?).
The set at hand is a live recording from 1978 and I have to admit that the sound is so-so - not horrible, by any means, but the perspective isn't always right and it is a little too dry for the shimmering, glistening, opulent textures to really work as they should, and some atmosphere is inevitably missing. I was not familiar with any of the performers; they generally acquit themselves adequately to well, though none are really outstanding. The choral and orchestral contributions are fine, though, and overall this is an issue very well worth acquiring - it would deserve another recording, to be sure, by a starrier cast and better sound, but the recording at hand will certainly do for now and is well worth investigating.
