Depeche Mode - Where's the Revolution
Depeche Mode are an English electronic band that formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex. The group consists of founders Dave Gahan (lead vocals, occasional songwriter since 2005), Martin Gore (guitar, keyboards, vocals, main songwriter since 1982), and Andy Fletcher (keyboards, bass guitar). Depeche Mode released their debut album Speak & Spell in 1981, bringing the band onto the British new wave scene. Original band member Vince Clarke (keyboards, guitar, main songwriter from 1980 to 1981), left the band after the release of the album, leaving the band as a trio to record A Broken Frame, released the following year. Gore took over the lead songwriting duties and, later in 1982, Alan Wilder (keyboards, drums, bass guitar, occasional songwriter) officially joined the band to fill Clarke's spot, establishing a line up that would continue for the next 13 years. Depeche Mode have been a trio again since 1995, when Wilder left.

1 of 2 copies. www.discogs.com/Debussy-Livia-Rev-Preludes-Book-I/release.... Gramophone Review:
We have been looking over two and a half years for the above, a companion to Livia Rev's superb recording of Debussy's Preludes Book I (Saga 5391, 3/75), and the delay is an indication of how badly the industry treats this very fine artist. The wait has of course been worth it, and the great interpretative penetration of these performances makes one regret further that Miss Rev appears as rarely in Britain as she does in the recording studios. She has, among many other things, a remarkable colour range, especially at the lower end of the dynamic spectrum, and as this is one of the areas of piano technique in which Sviatoslav Richter (in his Turnabout version) also excels, comparisons between them are especially instructive. How lucky we are to have two such bargain versions of these profoundly imaginative pieces, even if neither can boast first-class recorded sound.
The haze which Debussy loved to draw from the piano—his response to the sound of Wagner's orchestration—is animated from within by Richter and Miss Rev with translucent colours and pervasive warmth. A beautiful instance is "Brouillards", which is taken more quickly on the Saga performance than on Turnabout, yet sounds just as magically insubstantial. It is striking that no matter how slow, quiet and sparsely-noted these Preludes become, neither pianist allows them to seem passive. "Canope" is a fine example, as is "Feuilles mortes", which, particularly in Miss Rev's hands, sound "doucement soutenu et trhs expressif", just as Debussy asked. She reminds one of a phrase in one of his critical articles, about "the fall of the golden leaves that invest the splendid obsequies of trees".
In "La puerto del vino" Miss Rev is more incisive than Richter, and beneficially so for the Spanish mannerisms should not be too etherealized. She makes "Les fees" in No. 4 dance in a more lively fashion than him, also, though it must be said that in such pieces as this Richter's control will seem miraculous to listeners who have struggled with these works themselves. His is a Concert recording (location unstated), by the way, and it is a pity about the chiming clock during the trill section of this Prél ode, just as one regrets the banged door just before the end of "Bruyhres". Tids latter always puts me in mind of Apollinaire's poem L'Adieu ("J'ai cueilli cc brin de bruyère", etc.), and Miss Rev plays it with a purity, almost an innocence, that is most moving. In "General Lavine—eccentric", which Richter appears not to understand and takes much too fast, she does much better than with "Minstrels" in Book I, getting the irony of this ragtime take-off exactly right. In "Ondine", also, Richter smooths-down the music's contours overmuch, and there is more of a waternymph's cavortings in Miss Rev's version. Though Debussy saw as far into the heart and soul of the piano as any man, his works for it (like Schumann's) should not be played in too introverted a manner. Yet the sheer, and in some cases astonishing, mastery of Richter's performances ought to be emphasized, and the truth is that connoisseurs of fine pianism need both these records. M.H.
