This is my first attempt at a black and white. I'm need to keep working at it, but I"m satisfied with this one. I took this at the resort out at MarDon.

1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment

The 1st Minnesota Infantry performed one of the most critical actions of the battle during Longstreet’s Assault of July 2nd. Sickles’ Corps was falling back in disarray. Longstreet’s men were advancing to penetrate the center of the Union line, which had been dangerously thinned to prop up other sectors. General Hancock rode up to the 1st Minnesota, the only organized Union troops at hand, pointed at the advancing Confederates, and ordered them to “Take those colors!” Their sacrificial charge against overwhelming odds halted the Confederate advance. It bought desperately needed time for the center of the Union line to reform. the result was that Lee was forced into one last desperate gamble the next day with Pickett’s Charge.

The regiment entered the field 420 strong. Company L’s 32 men served as skirmishers and Company C’s 56 men were detached on July 2.

Colonel William Colvill, an attorney and newspaper owner from Red Wing, led the men into action. He was wounded during the July 2 charge. Captain Nathan Messick took over command only to be killed the next day during the repulse of Pickett’s Charge. Captain Wilson B. Farrell briefly took over until he was also killed. Finally Captain Henry C. Coates took over command. The regiment lost 50 men killed, 173 wounded and 1 missing.

Hermit Thrush (Catharus guttatus), Railroad Canyon trailhead, Gila National Forest, Grant County, New Mexico - 13 May 2011. This bird was pale and appeared relatively large and was likely a member of the "western mountain" subspecies group (C.g. auduboni group). Although I had thought there was a "molt limit" in the greater coverts, making this a young bird, Peter Pyle analyzed this photo at a molt workshop and concluded that this was an ASY (after second-year) bird - the two darker fresher-looking feathers are in the wrong location (fresher feathers would be molted in from the inner wing distally) and he thought they were probably just in disarray.

Venushi Nisansala is pictured in front of Devanandha Maha Vidhyalaya in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The school is being refurbished after the thousands of tsunami victims sought refugee under its roof during the deadly flood. Nisansala is in the 13th grade and is a member of the student council. The school was in disarray after the refugees left so CARE built a new water tank replacing the old one that had broken. CARE will also be donating playground equipment. CARE has been active in building a team leadership program among the student body. Nisansala says she built her self confidence through the program.

The minimalist tidiness and zero mess thing hasn't started yet.

The original cemetery fell into disarray over the years and the exact location of most of the grave sites were lost. Eventually, the stones were placed in neat rows and anchored in concrete.

In a perpetual state of disarray!

This is a picture of our social area in its usual state of slight disarray.

A booth was selling these brightly colored swatches of ribbon (plastic of some sort, I think). I liked the colors and the curly disarray of the strands.

This is a section of Philadelphia's Mount Moriah Cemetery. The cemetery has fallen in disarray and as you can see it is being slowly reclaimed by the unstoppable forces of nature. I loved the solitary tree standing guard among the tombs.

This is the light and camera setup Dad used when he first opened his studio. Because of budget constraints, he never owned brand-new equipment. However, after several years of operating the studio, he was able to upgrade to a more sophisticated setup, particularly improving his lighting equipment. Behind the curtains and backdrop was a door leading to a large unfinished storage area. Light poured in through large windows, which had a peculiar coating of paint on them, giving it a diffused quality. The room was cluttered with shelves and various objects, all covered in cobwebs. Despite the disarray, it was one of my favorite retreats.

The skeleton of this corral is falling to pieces; the remains become scattered like bones upon the Earth.

When we were in the Isle of Wight, we stumbled across a chemist/camera supply store which was closing down, having been trading in the town of Ryde and in the same family for most of last century.

We walked in to find the shop in disarray - in the process of being dismantled around us, with old camera bits and supplies stacked in dusty boxes, waiting to go to the dump.

The owner was getting rid of his collection of cameras - "Take them, please," he said, "I don't care if I never see a camera again."

So we did.

Humber Road Chippy has really struggled with the tram works. Most of the large holes have disappeared but the pavements are still in disarray, and there is more to be done around here before the road opens again.

Get a move on TWA!

A pano of the eat in kitchen area with our pottery by our friend Pat up on the double length shelf and the living room which is in less disarray than before.

Was this wild disarray planned or accidental?

this is our reality. the party in control of the government seems intent on destroying it so the rich can get richer without the annoyance of government regulation or a middle class. so the middle class must be destroyed by crushing the economy. pure class warfare. the demonstrations are just the beginning of the opposition. not convined, read the bill penned by Sarah Pallin credit limit bill due for a vote in congress in December.

When we walked in, there was nothing on the counter. This is what sari shopping is like. They make a complete pile of fabric showing you stuff, and then two brilliant women fold it all away when you've made your picks.

These are rain drops hitting a flat surface and bouncing all directions. The surface is a black pick up truck.I placed the camera on top of the truck

I've dipped my toes into local politics and it's taken over. I'm taking a breather this weekend- offline, on to family and home and clay.

Everything is in disarray as I move things around. The radial arm saw, aka 'the amputator' is back in it's original spot along the outside wall. I'm working on a dust collection network for my new dust collector.

An old building sits in disarray.

that's how I create. I just finished a chunky accordian book that you can see in my photostream.

I've never seen them working on a display before. It was a little surreal.

Unregulated building sprawling everywhere. I say this is beauty in the disarray.

My house is still in complete disarray following all the building works and new kitchen and I have spent much of the weekend cleaning, tidying and putting stuff back in the kitchen.

However, I did find time to make the gravy for Christmas dinner.

We still have so much to do to get the house back in order. Whose great idea was it to host Christmas?!
