2 Corinthians 10:5
Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ,
Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain. 25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. John 12:24,25

The Church of St. Nicholas from the village of Vysokiy Ostrov, Okulovsky District, was built by “the diligence of the parishioners” in 1757, that is, in the middle of the 18th century, when the heyday of folk wooden architecture had already passed. However, during this period, the so-called tiered churches became widespread, in which the traditions of ancient Russian architecture were still expressed.
This is a very imposing building. The length of the church is 29.7 m, the width is 9 m, the height is 22.3 m, the height of the bell tower is 28.2 m.
The Nikolsky temple was cut down, as they used to say in the old days, by a “ship”, that is, all the components of the building are located strictly symmetrically along the longitudinal axis.
Christmas 2020
For the last two years I have posted a Christmas Rose to say a very big thank you, to all those that have visited my photo-stream and faved/commented on my photography in that year. This year is no exception, however this year we find ourselves in the midst of a pandemic, the worst of its kind since 1919. I sincerely trust that you will all escape the ravages of this disease, what with vaccines, due diligence, hope and a large slice of luck. For me, words do not seem adequate enough. The problem is too vast for me to put into words however my message is clear. Just keep safe at whatever you do, enjoy your Christmas, with Families and Friends and hopefully we can look forward to a new year with a bit more encouragement than 2020. For that reason I am posting two Roses, one for hope and the other for peace.
This will be my last posting before the 25th. I will be back around the 28th and will catch up with all you kind enough to visit.
Best wishes to you all
Patrick

I was truly fortunate on this rainy morning. It was lightly raining off and on and it did not look like any morning light would make it through the darkening skies. The levels of the river lake were extremely low. At normal levels, the rocks and all below would be covered. During high times, the road I was shooting from would be entirely submerged and not passable.
I decided to stay on location just to see how far the Autumn colors were coming along in the area. I could tell that the trees close to me were turning a fall shade but wanted to see how the valley was. As I slowly drove down the path, I noticed the slightest hint of pink start to burn through. I stopped and found a composition I was happy with for a panorama to show the water levels.
As soon as I had everything set and level the sky began to glow a magnificent strawberry red. I began taking my frames and hoped I could get them in before it was gone. The moment only lasted about 10 minutes then it faded away. Just a reminder to always stay patient, stay curious, stay put if you don’t have anything pressing, you just may be rewarded for your diligence.
It may not seem like it, but really do miss my friends here on Flickr. I'm fine, just busy and always tired by the end of the day.
Also been actively investing in the stock market, and so far so good. (stock tip, Palantir, long term 2-5 years great upside potential, do due diligence if interested)
Haven't caught Covid, and finally have vaccine appointment this coming Wednesday. Hope all of you are well, such a terrible time for everyone.
I'm still stopping and taking pictures and editing when I'm not too tired. Tons of pictures in the queue ready to be posted.

Van Gogh said: " I work as diligently on my canvases as the laborers do in their fields."
The sower in particular was a figure that Van Gogh saw in terms of representing the eternal cycle of agricultural life, of honorable endeavor and tradition, and symbolized these qualities to the artist. The sun was also a symbolic element for Van Gogh, and in many of these paintings, it shines with an unearthly luminescence.
The California Winter of 2023 will go down in history for many reasons. The 100 year flood. The record breaking Sierra snowpack. The 50 year XXL swell that bombed the coast in late December. Famous Sea Stacks and coastal arches collapsed. Levee’s broke. Converging watershed zones created 100 year flood plains. It even snowed significantly down to 500 feet elevation… On more than one occasion. It was a wild ride, and chaos and disaster ensued often. The extremely cold and wet winter out west delayed spring bloom more than any other year I’ve seen in recent memory. But when it finally hit, it hit hard, and the state is just starting to wrap up a stellar and historical superbloom. Along the way, it was a photographers dream scenario. There were more iconic photo op days in winter and spring 2023 than the last 4 years combined. It required diligence and lengthy scouting work, but once you committed to the rhythm of the seasonal weather patterns (and lots of driving) there was op after op of pure uniqueness to be had. One of these opportunities is pictured above. Most of the time you have to go to Death Valley to get a shot like this. Luckily, this mud crack comp showed itself only an hour from my house. One of the perks of intense scout work is compositions show up at your doorstep more often.
These elaborate eroded pockets in the Navajo Sandstone wall of the San Rafael River canyon are called tafoni. Their origin is debated among geomorphologists. Possible explanations include the leaching of minerals that cement some parts of the rock making it more resistant to erosion, variation in the velocity of wind currents blowing across the rock, or differential patterns of rock breakdown (weathering) due to temperature variations. This is yet another clear failing of science, despite squandering tens of dollars of taxpayer money on research to study geomorphological processes.
Using intuition and creative thinking as guides, I have an alternate explanation which works just as well as “science” to explain these formations. I believe that tafoni are constructed by a species of small humanoid creatures, who etched these pockets into the stone as places to escape the elements. They were contemporaries of the ancient Greeks, and were impressed with the architecture and stonework at Petra, thus producing aesthetically appealing arches such as the ones shown here. Although no remnants of these microhumans remain (they were probably consumed by packrats around 2000 years ago), their excavations (tafoni) can be found throughout the world, a testament to their diligence and perseverance.
Fox Squirrel, Sciurus niger.
On Endangered Species Day, I’ll note that Fox Squirrels are not endangered because they adapt readily to human habitats full of Live Oak acorns and bird feeders, both of which are available locally in abundance. Species that cannot cohabit with Homo sapiens are dropping like flies, birds, frogs, fish, and all the other Charismatic (and non-charismatic) Megafauna our laws and international treaties have spent 5 decades failing to protect. While I admire & celebrate the motives and diligence of those who have worked to preserve our wild cousins, I’ll pause to reflect that there are deeper mechanisms at work, as Sir David describes in this 6min video:
Please join me in gratitude and appreciation for the natural world.
Happy Fence Friday! (By restricting wildlife mobility, fences create ecosystem “islands” that support fewer species.)

Balance is a precarious thing that must be perserved. Whether in times of bounty or strife, certain tasks must be done, upholding care and reverence in places of great importance.
The Gods are fickle things, in all of their benevolence and might. Their sight spans vastly beyond the understanding of man, who but live little more than a breath in the eons they must curate. No more are their emotions and moods any different, delicate in ways most could never hope to comprehend.
As such, even the jobs that seem most simple on the surface, must be done with a diligence and precision that mankind could never possess.

'No!' cried Sam! 'My picture gives a better overview of Spring!' 'But mine', exclaimed Olymp, 'is a metaphor for industry and diligence with that pollen collecting Dronefly. It's a more fitting tribute to the well-known patron of landowners and manufacture of this area, the Van Sonsbeek family for whom this park is named.'
So their Master put both pictures together: the Weeping Willow in commemoration of a Anna van Sonsbeek, one of many so-named daughters of the family in the seventeenth and eighteenth century. It is said the park is called after one of them. And then in the inset there's Dronefly on a hybrid, double Daffoldil; they're now scattered throughout the park. I was surprised to see our insect out because it was only 7C.

Farmstead's Charm
In the heart of the countryside's embrace,
A farmstead stands with its rustic grace.
Red barns and silos reach for the sky,
Against a backdrop of clouds up high.
Rolling pastures, where cattle roam,
A peaceful haven, a place to call home.
The scent of earth and freshly mowed hay,
Invites us to linger, to stay and sway.
Farmers toil with hands so skilled,
Cultivating the land, dreams fulfilled.
Rows of crops stretch far and wide,
An ode to diligence, side by side.
Golden harvests, a labor's reward,
Bounty of the fields, a gift to hoard.
In the beauties of farms and fields we find,
A connection to nature, intertwined.

There were prayer wheels everywhere in Nepal and we soon learned to spin them, and say a beautiful mantra taught to us by our guide. "Om Mani Padme Hum". Pronounced: "OHM-MAH-NEE-PAHD-MAY-HUM. This mantra, or prayer, means "Praise to the jewel in the lotus." This might not make any sense, but we learned that it's meaning is 'great and vast' because all the teachings of Buddha are wrapped up in this one phrase. Each syllable represents one of the six goals of Buddhist existence and helps heal or purify and bring forth the positive qualities associated with that goal.
Om: = the vibration or sound of the universe; represents divine energy and generosity and purifies the ego.
Ma: = represents ethics and purifies jealousy
Ni: = represetns patience and purifies want or desire
Pad: = represents diligence and purifies ignorance and judgement
Me: = represents concentration and purifies attachment
Hum: = the unity of all; represents wisdom and purifies hatred.
And now you know why I never missed an opportunity to spin a prayer wheel and say this chant, even though I'm not a Hindu or Buddhist. The mantra is something very special.
A gift from Carnica Bee Museum Kirschentheuer Ferlach to the Tiergarten Schönbrunn, the Vienna Zoo
"This original Rosental bee house is a reminder of the great importance of beekeeping in southern Carinthia. Since the settlement of this area, apiculture has been practised there. Charles V and Maria Theresa were important promoters of beekeeping in Carinthia.
Before the beginning of the First World War, beekeeping had reached its peak. Bee colonies from the Rosental valley were exported all over the world at that time. A special feature of this valley is the way the bees are kept in wooden hives with artistically painted front boards.
The Rosental valley is considered the original home of the Carniolan honey bee (Apis mellifera carnica), which is highly valued for its gentleness and diligence in collecting nectar. Due to the export activities of beekeepers, it can now be found not only in Europe, but also in America, South Africa and Australia.
Along with the dark bee (Apis mellifera nigra), which is common north of the Alps, and the ligustica bee (Apis mellifera ligustica), which is found in Italy, the Carniolan honey bee is the most important honey bee in Europe."
