World Photography Day

The patent for the daguerreotype, an early form of photography (and gift from the French), was released to the public on August 19, 1839, but it wasn’t until 2010 that the day would begin serving as a celebration for all photography.

With the rise in photography’s popularity, a group of photographers came together to set aside August 19 as World Photo Day. The group that originally established World Photo Day continues to encourage photographers to share a single photo with their view of the world to celebrate the art of photography.

That’s my Dad’s Mamaya C3 Professional Twin Lens Reflex in the photo. You can see the image through the viewfinder here.

This was THE camera of my youth. Long before I found myself behind my first DSLR camera in my 40’s, with this camera as a child, I was often in front of it, as a subject standing alongside my brother. Those photos typically had Dan with an awkward and reluctant smile and me with a shit-eating grin. I think of all the places my parents took us as kids a lot now. And I think of my Dad a lot too… looking down through viewfinder, seeing us reversed as is the way with a TLR.

The camera survived a horrific car accident in 1967 when our family tumbled down the side of a mountain along the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. We all survived no worse for the wear as did the Mamaya. First photography lessons there…protect the camera as you would a family member and if you’re thinking of purchasing a camera, buy a surviving beast of a rig.

Facebook was founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The biggest social network of all time began as a social experiment on their Harvard website and moved to become something much bigger very quickly. To date, Facebook sits at number 432 on the Fortune 500 list, published in May 2013.

CISPA is a bill that is supposed to protect your privacy online, especially within social media sites. However, since its introduction to the public and its many revisions, this bill is still under fire for giving the government too much access to user information and giving users too little authority to combat that. This has caught the attention of the nation.

The government and companies are now able to monitor your every movement and machines are able to recognize voice and fingerprints… Facebook is a great example of how people neglect their privacy

The open-world zombie-mashing RPG adventure plays a lot like you might imagine a bastard child of Borderlands and Dead Rising would: big world, great co-op, deep RPG character and weapon customization, first-person perspective. DLC was promised, but failed to materialize when the dev team shifted its post-launch priorities to squashing some of the game's lingering bugs.

If you've got the red/blue glasses from the 2009 Superbowl, wear them.

These glasses.

I wonder what above link will be like. As I see it now, anything marketed '3D' without glasses seems to be exclusive. Excluding people who might have issues with the ability to cross their eyes. They say people will be able to move their head without disrupting the image, but will the image actually take on a 3D attribute? I have my doubts.

Though there is a guy at the University of Kentucky working on this effect with projectors. Projecting a 2D image on a wall, he showed how he could walk from one end of the room to the other end and have the image change. Showing a headshot of a woman, it appeared as if he was actually walking around the woman. Hence being a '3D' image. (shown on the research channel)

Not what you see being marketed as '3D' movies/television. Only depth perception.
