“In a simple and a peaceful cottage with a beautiful view, you will not be dreaming about the palaces or the heaven, because you already have a perfect thing!”
― Mehmet Murat ildan
Nice place to sit for a coffee or lunch and you can bring your
dog 🐶, too. (Best in Large)
Digital sketch of one of my photographs while walking in Lititz, PA. (Hope you like it, a lot of work and time making this! (HSS!)
I tried sliding this a lot of ways, but couldn't keep the clouds and get the softness I wanted. I decided on soft.
Just for info, I used to add clouds/smoke with pixlr express, but the new, non-flash versions of pixlr (called X and E) don't have several of the effects I liked best, and some now require paid membership. I would consider paying, but since early January when they completed the change to the new versions, I haven't been able to get either pixlr X or E to work with my Safari browser. (I'll keep checking back to see if that's temporary. It may just be glitches as they switch from the old to the new versions.)
Growing up, my parents and I would go on a road trip nearly every weekend. My mother and I would always sing the same, traditional travel song with my father chiming in on "waaaassss... the other side of the mountain." I credit that song almost as much as the weekends with them for my love of the open road. I have a friend who keeps begging my husband and I to join them on cruises. I do appreciate the pampering one receives onboard, and I LOVE the open ocean, but give me a mystery road trip over that any day.
In the heady, carefree, pre-pandemic past, we went to Arches National Park, but, true to character, I just had to see "where does that **other** road go?" My husband, bless him, will go wherever I turn the steering wheel.
In the spirit of loving to go down the road never traveled, I decided to turn this photo from that trip into my first ever PS sketch, first watercolor, then, for the fun of it, first combo (just to see if I could do it)... totally out of character for me (as my husband said as he wandered by my monitor, "**what** is **that??" LOL!).
By the way, what is around the corner (or "over the mountain") is more of the same, awe-inspiring, red rock cliffs and the continuation of a very languid, reed bordered Colorado River, the antithesis of the powerful one we had seen earlier on this trip.
We would always end the song by simultaneously exclaiming, "**What** a silly bear!" Actually, I think that bear was very smart.
Origin Unknown, sung to "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow:"
The bear went over the mountain
The bear went over the mountain
The bear went over the mountain
To see what he could see
And all that he could see,
And all that he could see,
Waaaassssss...
The other side of the mountain
The other side of the mountain
The other side of the mountain
Was all that he could see.

When you accidentally blow up a thing with magic and can't decide if you should laugh hysterically or start screaming.
This was like, the third drawing I started today.
Also, in a completely unrelated exclamation: YAY WEEKEND!!
This may be his favorite thing ever.
Most likely no on noticed, but I always draw John's one eye with a teeny dot for a pupil. Not today.
I drank one of these on Friday and was bouncing off walls for hours. John is already full of manic energy. He'll never sleep again.
I like to pretend that maybe someone out there saw this coming...XD
Almost didn't do this. At all. I had the hardest time drawing anything.....but here you go. Faster than usual arts.
It bugs me that I changed the blue of the text balloons (Which I stole off the internets) but it was hard to read. Still is.....

I did another thing! Really fast sketchy. I actually did this because I wanted to color it, and then...didn't color it. :|
... I hope he at least remembered shoes.
This took me forever to do lol.
Not total time...but I worked on it a tiny bit here and there with spans of time doing nothing at all.
a colored sketch done directly on a Wacom tablet. definitely much more difficult than just pressing the shutter. but i think it didn't turn out so badly - good enough for sharing.
i hope you all are enjoying the weekend.
Crow doesn't exactly fly so much as not die while he's falling...and he needs height to do anything at all...so he lurks on rooftops a lot.
Then jumps off buildings, which people find weird.
More of my crappy backgrounds!
Late today because I was busy all day....but I got it done.
I just like to give him crazy expressions.
John isn't always sure about reality...so he just goes with it. Whatever it is.
Well this took me forever. Not really, but I kept changing things...and I uploaded it wrong (stupid hidden layers). But it's done! Yay!
kind of a companion piece? Or continuation? of the all BW one I did a while ago.

It's over for him. He's never going to take it off now...
This is not at all what I was planning to do but I had no choice.
John has what he hopes is a positive message for World Mental Health day.
I made my own watercolors over the weekend to use as texture! No more free ones off the inter webs!! I'm going to do a bunch of them. Someday. They take up space and time since they also take an eternity to dry omg. I get to sit around watching paint dry. Is not as fun as it sounds....
Maybe because it's October...but John's gone creepy.
Also, I really like the way I've been coloring things lately. It's possible I've found a style finally.

You know, at one point, John was a guy who had his life together. Hard to believe.
He'll be going out into the actual public in this outfit later. Blanket, no shoes and all....
Late because I was busy and started late.
This was not supposed to be my drawing today. I had another one almost finished, that I was very happy with, of another character and did I save my progress? NO I DID NOT. Now it's gone forever.
I did the denial thing and tried to recover it, but no. So here is anger.
He's just having a bad day.
Look, jeans and a hoodie! Clothes he actually owns but I've never drawn him in. And when I say actually, I mean the short list that pretty much only exists in my head.
My Ringdoll K actually has most of it already. But not this stuff. not yet...
I have to post this so I will stop messing with it D:
It was supposed to be yesterday's but I got started late and couldn't get the pose right (selfie time lol) and then I only got as far as the really sketchy sketch.
Now I keep nit-picking it to death. MUST POST. Now it's stone. Can't be changed.
Yesterday's art that for some reason I just couldn't get finished yesterday. I blame feet. I drew them over like, 55 million times. Screaming the whole time that this is supposed to be a "fast" sketch.
A continuation of the day before. Because John + string can't = anything other than bad.

Are like the octopus on your head that only you can see.
Or maybe that's just me.
Or maybe that's just John.
You know when you put clothes on a cat and they turn into a limp pile of rags, fall over and can't move from the absolute horror of wearing clothes? That's John right now.
I think if you nudge him he'd just collapse. BUT HE'S SO FLUFFY!!
LAST ONE I swear I'll get him into normal clothes again!
maybe
I could not stop messing with this - it took more work than it should have.
That balloon has a shelf life of about 30 more seconds, tops.
In case you were wondering, John does have the emotional maturity of like, a five-yr-old. It's not all his fault, his emotions are shiny and new. He's not used to them yet. And yes, he drew his own face on it with sharpie.
It's my birthday, so I did a happy and very non-complicated thing today.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Hallween-colored John! He forgets to dress up every year but really, who would know?
That everyone has who rolls out of bed and shows up for the party they didn't even know was going on and immediately becomes the center of attention because they tell these huge complicated stories while acting them out with crazy gestures and they may or may not even be true because they're usually about 6 things and they're confused about at least two of them. You know. That friend.
And if you ask John, that friend is that annoying guy over there and he'll tell you all about him. XD
BJD FRIENDS: My new goal for his wardrobe is a god-awful cardigan in colors that will never match his clothes. If anyone knows where to get one of those and could tell me, that would be awesome. He's skinny and 70cm tall (truth: 69cm. I round up). I'm looking at Alice Collections right now and may buy a few and throw them at him to see what sticks....but I'm not sure they have what I really want.
