He was a farrier/blacksmith for Company A of the Pennsylvania 18th Cavalry. The family would settle on a farm in Greene County, PA. Josephine Margaret Lawler, daughter of John William Jr. and Mary Ann (Darcy) Lawler, was born 29 Jan 1910 in Dobbs Ferry, New York and died 19 Jul 1982 in Saint Lucie, Florida. She married Robert Joseph Klueh (1909-1982). They are buried in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce, Florida. They had two daughters: Margaret Ann (1938-2013) and Barbara Joan (1942-2016).

DIGITAL ONLY. John W. Whitbeck was born in May 1849 in Loch Berlin, Wayne County, NY to Dr. Henry D. Whitbeck (1823-1901) and Sarah M. Whitbeck (1822-1897). John like many around the country, lied about his age claiming to be 18 when he joined the military during the Civil War. John was in fact just 14 years old. He joined New York Company A 9th Heavy Artillery in 1863 and was mustered out in 1864.
In 1872, John married Mary E. Glanville (1850-1928). He then attended school to become a dentist which was his profession until he passed. on 16 July 1919 in Interlaken, NY, John passed away. John and Mary had no children.
