Journal Code TRAVE. This #35mmfilm photo of #ancient #tombs was taken while #backpacking through the #xanthos valley in #Turkey. Visiting #ancient city of #tlos is a memory making adventure. The city ruins have been etched into my mind because I visited on a crisp autumn day; the blue sky was contrasted against yellow autumn leaves and ancient stone.

Portable Steam Power.
Thousands of portable #steam #engines made between the 1840s and 1920s like this #abandoned single #cylinder example powered sheep #shearing stations all over Australia. This engine photographed by me in western #newsouthwales in 1980 was left to #rust with three loyal steam companions. These engines all replaced by diesel engines in the 1940s. A good place to visit a restored examples would be the #powerhousemuseum in Sydney. These engines were a feature of many large sheep stations due to the engines portability. It's ironic to think that their success was due to portability because this engine hasn't been moved in many years.

When I visited the Royal BC Museum in my #gapyear1987 I was impressed with the displays and thought that had gone into this public space. This #timelapse photo of a western street inside the museum was one of the most memorable.

When visiting the abandoned Glen Davis #shale #oilrefinery be sure to look up at the #brick #chimney stacks in the large brick building in the main street. The #craftsmanship in this #brickstack is awesome. My intent was to draw the eye to brick diamond in the center of the stack, imagine if it hadn't crumbled away all that beauty would be unseen. A bit like humans aging.

Unlike my previous two posts with the theme of serenity this picture was taken pre-digital camera on #35mmfilm in 1981. I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time. You'll notice the black cow on the right is galloping towards the others. The others are in the midst of turning back into the scrub. Within seconds they had gone and the stunning #bellinger river returned to complete #serenity . If you're visiting New South Wales I can recommend visiting the lovely town of #bellingen and surrounding serene countryside.
