- the engine is directley bolted to the rear axle

- no transmission, no clutch, no radiator, no battery

- the boiler raises steam in 35 minutes fro cold

- working pressure is 600 lbs per sq inch

- power 60 bhp ( 20 boiler-horsepower)

- fuel Kerosene consumption: 30 liters / 100 km

- water consumption: 300 liters / 100 km

Special:

- The 170 S was based on the pre-war 170 V (1936), designed by Hans Nibel and introduced at the 1949 Internationale Automobilausstellung (IAA) in Hannover - Germany.

- The model improved over the years and was produced between 1949 and 1953 (A-Series May 1949 - February 1952 and B-Series W 191 January 1952 - August 1953, 5,555 units built).

- The diesel version persisted until late in 1955 (170 D: 1949-1950 / 170 DA 1950-1952 / 170 DS: 1953-1955, 14,887 units built).

- It has a four-speed manual gearbox, a Solex 32 PBJ carburettor, a 12-Volts electric system, a dry single plate clutch, a 47 liter fuel tank and rear wheel drive.

- The steel chassis (X-form oval-tubular back bone type frame) with all steel body with rear-hinged front doors has a 112 inch wheelbase, a one-piece windshield, front double wishbones, independent coil spring front suspension with telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers, independent coil spring suspension with telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear, transverse oscillating rear swing axle, worm & lever steering, 15-inch wheels and hydraulic drum brakes all around.

- The diesel version persisted until late in 1955 (170 D: 1949-1950 / 170 DA 1950-1952 / 170 DS: 1953-1955, 14,887 units built).

- The 170 S Series was also available as a Cabriolet and as Coupé.
