Rokinon/Samyang 85mm f1.4 MF lens.

These few photos test the ability of the f1.4 and the sensor on the D90.

Taken in a small eatery in sydney at night, the f1.4 indeed gathers substantial amount of light for a decent shutter speed to be used.

ISO on the D90 was pushed to 1600.

High ISO noise was improved in Lightroom

Since this lens is the chipped version (allowing auto exposure and control of shutter), I used Av mode to determine general exposure levels. However during shooting I work in manual mode so that the camera is not fooled too much by stray lights. I also over exposed by 1/3 of a stop to get nice exposure in general.

Miners work parcels of land which but right up against another man's land. As a result, some mines are carved nearly vertically downward.

Yesterday was that unusual day we get along about January some years, a day when it seems like nearly every bird we have that visits our yard decides to come visit at once. And on this day, we had a flock of ten or twelve Northern Cardinals working the feeder while the snow gently fell to the ground around them - multiple males and females alike. That's a treat in itself.

Along with the Cardinals, we had Blue Jays, House Finches, a Downy Woodpecker, a Red-bellied Woodpecker, Dark-eyed Juncos, the Carolina Wren, and a mix of Sparrows of course, all together for a period of about forty minutes. And all the while this was going on, a handful of Squirrels was playing tag among the birds in the trees out back.

The hummers are back!

I have been looking for them but couldn't find any for the past month. But today had a casual encounter with a few feisty ones! I was with my macro gear and wasn't prepared for a telephoto shot! This is with a 150mm with a 1.4X tele. Will be there again with my longer lens soon!

A few of the sharp ones that I could manage with my Macro tele setup!

The Dinorwic quarry is a large former slate quarry, now home to the Welsh National Slate Museum, located between the villages of Llanberis and Dinorwig in North Wales. It was the second largest slate quarry in Wales, indeed in the world, after the neighbouring Penrhyn quarry near Bethesda.

It covered more than 700 acres (283 ha) consisting of two main quarry sections with 20 galleries in each and a number of ancillary workings. Extensive internal tramway systems connected the quarries using inclines to transport slate between galleries.

Digging down for the slurry channels

In the beginning of December 2010 there were heavy rains in the area of Epirus Greece which resulted in a flood over a vast area.A part of the Greek highway A2 ( Egnatia) was shut down for 10 days as a result of over 4 feet of water overflowing it.

This excavator was abandoned near the highway.

Harvesting cockles at the shores of Bayan Mutiara Penang. They get their cockles fresh from the muddy beach, preparing for the lunch feast.

I always worry for contamination in the cockles, cases of lead and mercury(heavy metal) poisoning are very rare - but something to be alert of. Twenty years ago, this was in the middle of the sea. This shore is part of a reclaimed land that become Bayan Mutiara.

Uncovered a very large silver maple root, right in the corner where I'd planned to plant a red twig dogwood. Rethinking plan; consulting with county rain garden maven (who happens to be our neighbor).

Installing a rain garden at the bungalow. First step: dig out ~9 inches of soil in the ~100 sq ft garden bed. 6 inches of that will be replaced (with compost + soil, then a layer of mulch).
