I wanted to illustrate the pressure the media puts on people, especially women. The model's eyes have been replaced with images from magazines, symbolizing the digestion of the media's messages; parts of her body have been replaced with food items to represent the way women are treated as objects for consumption; her midsection has an hourglass overlay, which is a visual representation of both the classic "hourglass" figure most women strive for, and also the shelf-life of youth, which is so valued in society; she stands in front of a TV and a magazine, which obviously represent the media she's exposed to every day. The television screen has a close-up picture of sequined Converse sneaker (with a rainbow overlay for extra prettiness) to symbolize how the general public will accept anything that is pretty or sugar-coated and accept it without question, even if it harms them.

¡A no desesperar!

The Postcard
A Star Series postcard published by G. D. & D. The card was printed in Germany.
The card was posted on Tuesday the 27th. May 1918 to:
Miss Case,
Cary Park,
Babbacombe.
The message on the divided back of the card was as follows:
"Dear F,
Glad to hear you got back
safely, and caught a train.
I hope you are well and
got over your walk.
I don't think I have yet -
I am as stiff as I can be,
and my nerves and my
digestion have been
rotten all week.

Kennington Park
Kennington Park is a public park in Kennington, south London. It was opened in 1854 on the site of what had been Kennington Common, where the Chartists gathered for their biggest "monster rally" on the 10th. April 1848.
Soon after this demonstration the common was enclosed and, sponsored by the royal family, made into a public park.
Kennington Common was a site of public executions until 1800 as well as being an area for public speaking. Some of the most illustrious orators to speak here were Methodist founders George Whitefield and John Wesley who is reputed to have attracted a crowd of 30,000.
The common was one of the earliest London cricket venues and is known to have been used for top-class matches in 1724.
The Water Fountain
The Felix Slade drinking water fountain in the park was designed by Charles Henry Driver.
Slade donated the fountain in 1862 after feeling sorry for the local children who had to take their refreshment from the cab horse trough.
The Bombing of an Air Raid Shelter
On the 15th. October 1940, a public bomb shelter dug as a grid of trenches in the park, suffered a direct hit during the Blitz.
An estimated 104 people were killed. Only 50 bodies could be identified by name. Due to treacherous wet ground conditions, with the shelter walls collapsing on rescuers, the remains of up to another 54 local people were left in the ground, covered in lime, and the trenches filled in.
Adolphe Rabinovitch
So what else happened on the day that the card was posted>
Well, the 27th. May 1918 marked the birth in Moscow of Adolphe (AKA Alec) Rabinovitch.
He was a Special Operations Executive officer in France during the Second World War. He rose to the rank of captain.
The Early Years
Born to a family of Jewish extraction in Russia and raised in Egypt, he studied in Paris and lived in the United States before the outbreak of the war. He was a junior wrestling and boxing champion in his youth, and has been described as a 'Giant of a man'.
World War II
In 1939 he volunteered to join the French Foreign Legion. He was taken prisoner by the Germans in June 1940, but escaped after three months.
He then moved to Great Britain and became an SOE agent. Rabinovitch was described by a trainer as 'Argumentative and humourless, an enigma'.
He first parachuted into France on the 27th. August 1942 north of Grenoble. He was dropped in the wrong place, and became a radio operator for the SPINDLE network (code-named "Arnaud"), with Peter Churchill and Odette Sansom, and managed to evade capture when that network collapsed.
With Victor Hazan (code-name "Gervais"), he got back in contact with the network's contacts around Annecy and on the Côte d’Azur before returning to England via Spain. There he became the assistant to Jean de Lattre de Tassigny before being parachuted back into France on the night of the 2nd. March 1944 with Roméo Sabourin.
Death
His orders were to set up and command the BARGEE network, but the landing site was under German control and he was wounded and captured as he landed. Because he was a Jew, he was deported to Rawicz extermination camp in Poland, where he was gassed and cremated.
Peter Churchill dedicated his book 'Duel of Wits' to:
'My beloved Arnaud, the late Captain
Alec Rabinovitch, a violent, difficult,
devoted and heroic radio operator, and
through him to all 'underground' men
and women of his supreme calibre who
died, as they lived, in solitude.
Their feats are legendary and beyond
all military awards."
In the 1950 British film 'Odette' he was played by Peter Ustinov.

Goldstrike Cuts 14.25 GPT Gold Over 2.4 Metres With Visible Gold – Drilling Under Way
August 20, 2012 – Goldstrike Resources Ltd. (TSX-V: GSR) is pleased to report positive initial results from its 100% controlled Plateau Property in Yukon. Significant extensions have been added to zones of gold mineralization discovered by Goldstrike in 2011 and the teams currently in the field continue to discover multiple new zones of mineralization. This demonstrates the strong gold potential of this property. No historical work has ever been documented on the Plateau property.
All gold mineralization discovered to date is original.
Team One
Plateau North – Goldrush Zone
Soil sampling has extended the Goldrush trend (first discovered in late 2011) from 400 metres to 1.8 kilometres to date and the trend remains open. Sampling in 2012 has so far returned values from background up to 26 grams per tonne gold from decomposed rock in pits. Multiple additional assays are pending. Further soil sample grids 3 and 4 kilometres to the west and southwest have been completed, with the focus on expanding the area of known gold mineralization. These assays are also pending.
Gold mineralization in the Goldrush zone appears to be hosted in multiple stacked carbonaceous biotite-sericite shear zones that cut the property in a north-south direction and remains open. Initial shallow exploratory drilling on the Goldrush zone was recently completed to trace the geometry and extent of the gold mineralization. Assays are pending.
Plateau Northeast
A new mineralized quartz stockwork was recently discovered within an extensive area of mineralized limestone and calcareous sediments named the Golden Arc zone. The limestone host rock has been outlined over a length of more than 600 metres, and is up to 40 metres thick. It is silicified and fractured, with 15% quartz stringers that contain sulphides, and the zone remains open. A coincident magnetic feature 250 to 300 metres long is associated with the showing, and early soil sampling has returned values from background up to 564 parts per billion gold. Follow up prospecting, mapping, and sampling were recently completed in the area to trace the full extent of the gold mineralization. Assays are pending.
Plateau South – Goldstack Zone
A gold mineralized zone identified by local prospector Tom Morgan while staking early in 2012 to increase Goldstrike’s landholdings in the area has been confirmed as a new discovery. The showing in the “Goldstack Zone” is a structurally controlled quartz breccia within an area of extensive quartz veining, stockwork and brecciation that has produced numerous samples containing coarse visible gold. Three channel samples cut across the strike of the zone have returned average values of 14.25 grams per tonne over a total length of 2.4 metres. Individual channel sample results include 23.82 grams per tonne over 1 metre and 7.71 grams per tonne over 1 metre. Another channel sample cut across strike 7 metres to the east returned a weighted average of 7.29 grams per tonne gold over 1.3 metres, including 40.1 grams over 10 cm. The current true thickness of the Goldstack mineralized zone has been measured at 9 metres in core. Additional channel samples have been taken along strike, and results are pending. Prospecting has discovered gold mineralization on trend 3.5 km to the west and 1 km to the east of the Goldstack showing, and the zone remains open. The Goldstack zone is being drilled to trace the gold mineralization to depth and along strike, and it remains open in all directions. Assays are pending.
Plateau South – Yellow Giant Trend
Prospecting and mapping has confirmed that the Yellow Giant Trend is a major new regional scale system of parallel gold-bearing structures at least 25 kilometres long and 5.5 km wide, and that it remains open in all directions. This large system contains extensive quartz veining, gossans, and mineralization throughout. Gold mineralization has been confirmed up to 28 grams per tonne in initial rock grab samples at the newly named Goldbank zone. The bulk of assays taken along and across the Yellow Giant Trend remain pending.
VG Zone
Follow up prospecting and sampling in 2012 of the area around the previously reported sample containing visible gold and grading 4.6 ounces per ton gold has defined an area of structurally controlled gold mineralization measuring about 225 by 100 metres. This has been named the VG Zone, and it remains open in all directions. Within the VG Zone several samples containing coarse visible gold were taken from weathered outcrop/subcrop. The VG Zone continues to be expanded daily, with new mineralization having now been discovered up to 1000 metres away both to the northeast and the southwest. Infill mapping and sampling continues, and assays are pending. Reconnaissance sampling and prospecting continue on trend, and new mineralization continues to be found, expanding the dimensions of the VG Zone.
Team Two
Solomon’s Summit
Solomon’s Summit is a zone of gold mineralization that was discovered in 2011 within a 3 by 1.5-kilometre limestone unit. A rock chip sample from outcrop assayed 5.3 grams per tonne gold. Additional mineralization was identified within a larger, northwest-trending zone known as Solomon’s Trend. New results from 2012 sampling have outlined a strong 2.5 by 1.6 kilometre multi-element gold soil anomaly with 14 of 235 samples (6%) between 100 and 508 parts per billion gold, within a large halo of 69 anomalous samples (29%) ranging from 25 to 99.9 parts per billion gold. The remainder of the soils returned values between background and 24.99 parts per billion gold. Rock assays from this zone are pending, and follow up trenching and drilling have been recommended.
Team Two has also completed 2012 mapping, prospecting, and sampling programs on Big One, Lucky Strike, and Livingstone, and has identified new mineralization on all properties. Assay results are pending.
Assays from a total of 1454 rock, 596 soil, and 11 silt samples, and assays from all drill core from the 2012 exploration programs remain outstanding.
“We are very pleased with the results of the 2012 program to date”, said Goldstrike President and CEO Terry King. “With the bulk of the assays still outstanding we look forward to the future with great anticipation.”
Sample analysis and assaying for all of Goldstrike's projects are being conducted by Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd in Vancouver, BC and AGAT Laboratories Limited in Mississauga, Ontario, both of which are ISO 9001 accredited. Soil samples are dried at 60oC, reduced to 100 grams, and sieved to -80 mesh. A 15 gram charge is then dissolved with a 1:1:1 aqua regia digestion, and analyzed by a 72-element combination ICP-MS and ICP-AES package that includes gold. Rock samples are crushed, split, and 250 gram samples are sieved to 200 mesh. 30 gram charges are then assayed for gold using fire assay fusion and ICP-ES, and in addition, 0.5 mg charges are dissolved with a 1:1:1 aqua regia digestion, and analyzed by 37-element ICP-MS that also includes gold. Rigorous procedures are in place regarding sample collection, chain of custody and data entry. Certified assay standards, duplicate samples and blanks are routinely inserted into the sample stream to ensure integrity of the assay process.
Note: Grab samples are selective by nature, and are unlikely to represent average grades on the property.

Close view of a bunch of Chinese Sumac in Pharung village in Manipur, NE India. Locally called Heimang, sumac is a wonder fruit which the locals use as a stomach cleanser and a digestion aid. The fruit itself is super sour, but they make a paste out of it and add sugar to kill the sourness. It does work wonders- I had a dose of it last night and it did clear up my stomach completely this morning. My hosts pointed out this bunch to me as we are walking around Pharung village in Manipur in NE India, generally exploring the villaga and it's surrounding area. My son and I have traveled here to attend a wedding which took place the previous day. (see previous pictures earlier in this album). (Pharung Village near Ukhrul, Manipur, NE India, Jan. 2020)

Today I selected an image that fully explains how I relate to Monday mornings ... :-) Go on, admit it, I'll bet that I'm not alone with those thoughts when the Monday morning alarm rings. LOL.
This burrowing owl was photographed expelling a pellet, which is a normal process and behavior exhibited by all owls. See, the pellet consists of the indigestible remnants of their meal. It's also quite interesting to see what they've been eating too! Now I have to admit that I haven't yet explored the contents of the burrowing owl pellets, but we have done it with the eastern screech owls that raised their young in our backyard ... lots of bird bones and yellow feathers were in those. We also used the pellet locations to find the male great horned owl out in Rocky Mountain NP ... those pellets actually contained an intact bird skull! Fascinating I think.
So, as I said before, though I don't expel pellets, I do feel this urge and reaction most Monday mornings ... except when on vacation, that is. :-)
Thanks for stopping by to view and share your thoughts and comments.

Dame sangre, dijo H.
Me di
Casi
siempre lloraba. Y me sentía indigno. ¿No tenía fuerzas suficientes para
vivir allí, darle cara a la vida militar? No, me dijo nuestro capitán una
vez.
me contuve. No podía. No debía.

Goat force is immune to poison oak.
Dairy goats that eat poison oak do not transfer detectible amounts of the toxic principle, urushiol, to the milk or to the urine. This oily, toxic irritant is found in goat manure at less than 9% of its concentration in poison oak leaves. How does this happen? ucanr.edu/repositoryfiles/ca4603p4-69619.pdf

THIS FACILITY IS AN EFFORT TO PROVE THE CONCEPT OF THE ANAEROBIC DIGESTION OF A MIXTURE OF SOLID WASTE AND SEWAGE SLUDGE, TO DEVELOP DESIGN PARAMETERS,TO ESTABLISH ECONOMICS,AND TO DEVELOP DATA ON THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF GAS PRODUCED. URBAN WASTE IS SHREDDED AND SEPARATED INTO LIGHT AND HEAVY FRACTIONS. THE LIGHT FRACTION IS COMBINED WITH UP TO 10 PERCENT SEWAGE SLUDGE AND DIGESTED. WHEN OPERATING AT FULL CAPACITY, THE FACILITY IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE ALMOST 300 MILLION CUBIC FEET OF METHANE PER YEAR. THE METHANE PRODUCED MAY BE USED AS FUEL FOR POWER GENERATION IN THE LOCALITY OR CLEANED FOR INJECTION INTO NATURAL GAS LINES. THIS DOE FACILITY WILL DEMONSTRATE THE COMMERCIAL AND TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY OF USING AN ANAEROBIC DIGESTION PROCESS TO DAILY CONVERT 50 TO 100 TONS OF SHREDDED ORGANIC WASTES AND SEWAGE SLUDGE INTO METHANE-RICH GAS. SOLID WASTE STORAGE BUILDING (LEFT), DIGESTOR TOWER (CENTER) AND WASTE CLASSIFICATION BUILDING (RIGHT).

Small, sweet smelling, daisy-like flowers. Tea made from flowers aids digestion and acts as a gentle sleep inducer. The flowers can also be used to garnish salads, desserts, and drinks. Flavour is slightly sweet and of chamomile.
This harvesting tool is great for you gardeners who like to collect chamomile (or other small flowers & seeds).
This harvesting tool allows you to easily (and quickly!) collect flowers and seeds without having to snip a single stem.
