I had difficulty sleeping in the early morning today but woke from a doze when the dawn was showing these lovely red and golden tones. A storm is forecast later today so perhaps this is the foretelling!

I remember hikes in which I encountered difficulties. And you?

°°°°°°°°°°

The professional photography sector is still marked by the underrepresentation of women, especially in the most visible areas such as press, publishing, or advertising.

Women photographers often face gender stereotypes, questions about their legitimacy, and doubts about their skills—sometimes reinforced by internalized biases (lack of self-confidence, difficulty networking, etc.).

The attractiveness of a woman can, in some cases, exacerbate these prejudices, as some colleagues or clients may be more inclined to reduce her professional credibility to her appearance rather than her actual abilities !

I had some difficulty getting a good picture of the buffalo. A large herd of over 100 animals kicked up a lot of dust. The visibility was limited and in the early morning light, several areas of the bushland were still in shadow. They were also moving away from the river, and most of them just turned their backsides toward us. In this moment, I was able to get a quite decent capture.

High difficulty to photograph.

Alta dificultad de fotografíar.

After five trips to Parque de la Uva, located in the municipality of La Unión, Valle del Cauca department, Colombia, accompanied by my wife Norma Cecilia and my daughter Laura Elizabeth, we finally captured this photograph, the first in a series I will publish. The fifth time was the charm, and we were finally able to see this beautiful and elusive hummingbird with a golden throat, ruby-red crown, and orange tail, unique to the Chrysolampis genus. Thanks to the collaboration of the park's Ivan Santacruz Acosta management and Juan Sebastian Ospina, an expert bird guide dedicated to assisting locals and tourists who come in search of this splendid species. Hidden among the aloe vera flowers, it eludes the presence of the Amazilia hummingbirds and the cameras of photographers from all over the world who flock to the site seeking a beautiful memory.

In 1955, Ford had difficulty naming this car. Among the 5,000 suggested names were Hep Cat, Beaver, Detroiter, Runabout, Arcturus, Savile, El Tigre and Coronado. One serious suggestion was Whizzer.

Not having a name for their two-seater sports car, Ford ran a competition within its company to name their two-seater, with the prize – a $250 suit. The name, Thunderbird, came from a Ford stylist from the Southwest, Alden “Gib” Giberson, who submitted the Thunderbird name after having coffee one morning seeing a drawing of a two-headed bird on his cup.

His submission was a reference to a legendary Indian creature, a supernatural bird with great power and strength. Although winning, at the time you could not find a $250 suit in Detroit so Alden was happy to settle with a $95 suit and two pairs of pants.

In Native American mythology, the Thunderbird creates thunder and lightning. Many different tribes of the American Southwest, Great Plains, and Pacific Northwest have their own version of the Thunderbird, including the Lakota, the Ojibwa, and the Sioux.

Difficulties are made to be overcome, problems to be solved.

“Real difficulties can be overcome; it is only the imaginary ones that are unconquerable.” - Theodore N. Vail

Dyslexia is a learning difficulty that primarily affects the skills involved in accurate and fluent word reading and spelling.

I've never been formally diagnosed, but I've always struggled with my spelling and fluent communication. Forming coherent sentences has always been a challenge for me, but with practice and modern tech, it easier to get by.

I thought dyslexia was an excellent topic to combine with the brief 'Dutch angle'. By tilting the image, it helps to suggest a sense of confusion and chaos while interpreting text.

This image was taken for the 'Macro Mondays' - 'Dutch Angle' challenge, 21st September 2020.

We had difficulty convincing my then 2 yrs old grandson that Wonderland at Retford near Nottingham - just checked and actually called Sundown Adventure land now…this was indeed a wonderful place, lol like being in fairytale land . Grim more like it...making memories that you never forget :)

Despite of the serious difficulties we all have to pass during these hard times we keep taking photographs, keep doing what we like the most. Life goes on and it's great. No matter if the cold winter is outside. We, for example, have about -25 and very heavy snowfalls for a couple of recent weeks. I feel some warmth inside, a summer state of mind. And I wish you to have same bright feeling too.

Thank you for all the comments and faves, my friends.

I had no difficulty in coming to an opinion about what is "Best with the Holidays" as it is undeniably the fact that it is the one time in the year that our entire family, i.e., Pam, myself, our four daughters and their husbands along with my 6 grandchildren make a point of getting together. Coming up with a representative macro was a bit harder. The image is "The Hunt" monogram on a small plate from the Christmas china on which we serve our traditional Christmas Eve meal. Less than 3 inches. Happy Holidays to all!

View from Mt Difficulty Vineyard in Bannockburn where we are having lunch. April 27, 2016 Central Otago in the South Island of New Zealand.

The Cellar Door at Mt Difficulty Wines is known as much for its dramatic views of rugged rock and thyme landscapes as it is for its stylish wine and food.

The unique microclimate of the Bannockburn area is partially created by the presence of Mount Difficulty which overlooks the southern Cromwell basin, and is the namesake of Mt Difficulty Wines. Mount Difficulty is integral in providing low rainfall and humidity for the region. Bannockburn enjoys hot summers, a large diurnal temperature variation and long cool autumns; conditions which bring the best out of the Pinot Noir grapes. These conditions, along with soils which are ideal for viticulture, provide an excellent basis not only for Pinot Noir, but also for Pinot Gris, Riesling, and Chardonnay. The soils are a mix of clay and gravels, but all feature a high pH level; grapes produce their best wines on sweet soils.

Snapshot with the mobile phone. It was raining, and in the photo, the fine drizzle looked like photo noise, so I removed it. However, a hint of water mist still clings to the tower.

The Berlin TV Tower (constructed between 1965 and 1969) is the tallest structure in Germany, standing at 368 m (1,207 ft), but it's not the highest building tough (this is a bank tower in Frankfurt, but compared to world famous sky scrapers, it is still small with its 259 m (850 ft) without antenna).

The tower was built by the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) and was intended to be a symbol of the technological advancements of the socialist state.

Another fun fact: during the construction of the Berlin TV Tower, East Germany faced financial difficulties. To continue the project, they received financial support from West Germany. This collaboration was somewhat ironic, given the political divide between the two German states at the time.

Due to some personal difficulties I had to think out of the box for this weeks theme Aerial View. Quite pleased with the result.

I had difficulty identifying this moth, as I used two books that I had on Butterflies and Moths, and finally I Googled it. I am not 100% sure if this is what it is, so if anyone thinks differently please let me know. I found it in a patch of scrub by the river at Waterperry Gardens this week. It was totally at rest for a long time so was easy to photograph.

Mill Creek Falls Scenic Area, Rogue River, Prospect Oregon. This is the second of two waterfalls along the short Mill Creek hike. We had a little difficulty photographing here due to a constant misting rain, and the need to climb around some rock formations to get a decent view of the falls. While you don't get an opportunity to get close up to the falls this is still a great stop along the drive to Crater Lake from Medford.

Vernal Falls

Yosemite National Park, CA

This one was taken from this past summer as we were hiking up the Mist Trail up to Vernal Falls in Yosemite National Park. This is the view looking down the mountain. The climb is almost entirely uphill. I shot this with the ultra wide lens at 10mm I still feel like I barely captured most of the views. I probably should have done a panorama. Lessons learned.

Oshten (Adyghe Oshyuten) is one of the mountains in the western part of the Caucasus Range. Oshten, Pshekha-Su and Fisht (43°59' N and 39°53' E) form one mountain range, with a wide, torn into several parts peak and are separated from each other by a saddle, passing in the south southeast direction. Oshten, together with Fisht, are the first peaks from the western end of the Caucasus Range, rising to the height of the snow line and covered not only with snow, but also with small glaciers, about 10 in number. The snow line on Oshten and Fisht, located from the Black Sea, is only 40 miles and subject to its strong influence, falls very low - up to a height of 2,737 meters above sea level. On these peaks, rocks and a clearly defined zone of alpine meadows protrude, while to the west of them the Caucasus Mountains almost nowhere rise above the upper border of the forests and almost everywhere are covered with them to the very tops. Oshten consists of only limestones. Several fairly large rivers flow from Oshten, Fisht and their spurs: Tsitse and Pshekha head north from them, and Belaya south.

The peak is not categorized, but there are climbing routes of difficulty categories up to 1B and 2B

It was found out that SNIPE can sail even over dry land without any difficulty.

Here it got stucked into house, so I call it only JEEP and not TANK.

So far I have fond similar feature only on some BBX motorboat, which was able to move over the whole island, including climbing over the hill in the middle.

Juli 2021).

The cutting at Sinngrün is a good example of how quickly nature reclaims its terrain. After being generously cut back in winter, in midsummer it was only possible to reach the site for eastbound trains with great difficulty. Bushes and raspberry vines had grown too high again. Finally arrived at the suitable place, the train selection could have been more spectacular. A tandem consisting of the 193 990 and 998 in service for ecco rail carried a heavy timber train towards Regensburg (23 July 2021).

Nemo Nanyi མེ་མོ་ ན་ ཉི་ (Gurla Mandhata) 7728m (25354ft)

Nemo Nanyi མེ་མོ་ ན་ ཉི་ (Gurla Mandhata) 7728m (25354ft). It is the 34th highest peak in the world (using a 500 metre prominence cutoff). It is also notable for being well within the Tibetan Plateau (most peaks of similar height - except notably Shishapangma, the world's 14th highest peak - lie nearer to or outside the edge of the Plateau) and relatively far away from other peaks of height greater than 7500 metres. It sits roughly across Lake Manasarowar from the sacred peak of Mount Kailash. The Tibetan name, Naimona'nyi, is said to come from naimo = "herbal medicine", na = "black", nyi = "heaped-up slabs", giving "the mountain of heaped-up slabs of black herbal medicine." In 1905 T. G. Longstaff, accompanied by two alpine guides and six porters, made an attempt on Gurla Mandhata. They turned back at around 7,000 m (23,000 ft) after being caught in an avalanche and encountering other difficulties.[1] This was a strong achievement for the time, especially for such a small group; at that time no summit of over 7,000 m had yet been climbed and Longstaff's height represented a world altitude record. The first ascent of the peak was by a joint Japanese/Chinese team led by Katsutoshi Hirabayashi, via the north side of the peak, in May 1985. Since that time, there have been six additional successful ascents and two failed attempts on the peak. In 1997, an attempt was made to ascend the peak via the then-unclimbed North Face route by Quinn Simons, Soren Peters, and their guide, Charlie Fowler. The team made a valiant effort, climbing high on the mountain, but after severe storms and other difficulties had to retreat. Their descent ended in a fall of some 450 m (1,500 ft) down the North Face of the peak. Fowler was slightly injured, while Simons and Peters both suffered extreme frostbite on their extremities. The standard ascent route climbs the western flanks of the mountain ascending the Chaglung'mlungha Glacier to the summit plateau. Most teams choose to approach the mountain over land by jeep from either Lhasa, Tibet, or Kathmandu, Nepal. However, an alternate approach begins in the mountain hamlet of Simikot, Nepal, in the remote Humla district of west Nepal and follows the Karnali River northward, crossing into Tibet in the village of Sher. Jeeps then take climbers north through Taklakot (Burang) to basecamp on the mountain. The first official American ascent of the mountain was made on September 28, 2006 en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gurla_Mandhata

Legends

The legends focus on Nicholas' compassion for vulnerable people in difficulty. For example, he threw gold coins into the house of a poor man who could not pay his daughters' dowry. In doing so, he prevented the daughters from falling into prostitution. Bishop Nicholas also rescued shipwrecked people and returned a kidnapped boy to his mother. The most sensational story is that the saint is said to have raised three children from the dead. They had been murdered by a greedy innkeeper and their bodies were pickled in a barrel for cannibalistic purposes. Another version of the story speaks of three priest students who were brought back to life by Nicholas.

Bari

From the sixth century onwards, Nicholas was venerated as a saint throughout the Byzantine Empire. Because the Turks threatened to conquer Myra in 1087, the bones of Saint Nicholas were transferred to the southern Italian port city of Bari.

The ancient veneration of St. Nicholas gradually spread throughout Christendom. In Utrecht (the Netherlands) the name of the saint appears in a book dating from 1183.

As of late I have either had difficulty remembering where I took a photo or misplaced my notes altogether. Fortunately I have the notes from this shot of a loaded coal train on the sweeping curve at Belle Ayr in the Powder River coal basin. 9.01

The only difficulty with tight rules on MM is that during COVID 19 not everyone will be able to fulfil the strict rules of the time line. If I get the time I’ll add into the MM pool just to highlight the problem for some of us when we’ll be a bit busier than normal.

The larger shell is 3inches in size, so then significantly smaller then, they are 3-5mm in size.

Via ferrata of medium difficulty, in the east ascent one passage B/C, otherwise easier (B and A/B), the descent via the SW ridge is a touch easier (passages B, mostly around A/B). In the approach to the east face there are some unsecured scree passages (max. I) and in the descent an unsecured exposed ridge section to overcome. Due to the high frequency of use, the route is very prone to falling rocks. For the ascent, surefootedness and a head for heights are necessary.

Delicate Arch is the most iconic sandstone arch in the Arches National Park and it requires medium difficulty and 3 miles hiking both ways. It’s challenging and intimidating at some slopes where these photos were taken but visitors were undaunted and really enjoyed the breathtaking views. But unfortunately, the day after we visited, on 11/29/2019, two tourists from California fell to their death near this site. Do make sure the weather be favorable before you take up the hike and exercise your highest level of caution when you go. A pair of hiking shoes with proper gripping on rock is a must. Do not attempt to hike up there with regular sneaker, never!

If we wait until our lives are free from sorrow or difficulty, then we wait forever. And miss the entire point.

Having difficulty in identifying these. My current thought is that they are mergansers, a male in eclipse and a female, but would welcome comments. Seen on the Tyne today.

I am having difficulty with the identification of this stint. Maybe somebody can help ID this bird? I am inclined to believe it is a Little Stint judging by the bill shape and colouring of the upper parts. It was by itself among a large flock of similarly sized Wrybill out at Lake Ellesmere a couple of months ago. As the Little Stint is very rare, this bird is likely a Red-necked Stint.

Weather is often the main difficulty in Scotland but there is a saying in Scotland that if you don't like the weather there wait for ten minutes. Yes the weather is so changeable that often if you wait you will be rewarded with some sunshine. I took this shot on one of my weekly visits to the Highlands and lo and behold the whole week was end to end sunshine. I had to delete the last two images as they were over processed. Thank-you for your comments and critiques. Constructive criticism is always welcome.

Excerpt from the plaque:

The Palace Pier

The vision of a grand lakefront amusement pier was conceived in the 1920s as a rival for the neighbouring Sunnyside Pavilion. The pier was designed by Craig & Madill with various structures in a flamboyant Moroccan style of architecture, and was to project 1800 feet into Lake Ontario terminating with a steamboat landing. Financial difficulties in the early 1930’s delayed the construction. Only the first phase of the redesigned amusement pier, 300 feet long, was opened on June 10, 1941 and it became popular as a major dance hall of the big band era during World War II and the postwar years. The pier was destroyed by fire in 1963, and the site later redeveloped into condominiums and public park. The base of this monument is one of the original concrete pier footings, donated to the City of Etobicoke by the residents of the Palace Pier Condominium.

Great difficulty standing against the strength of the wind.

The Helm Wind is the only named wind in the UK. Blows along the length of the Cumbrian Pennines, East of the Eden Valley and is marked by a long rolling bank of cloud parallel to the Pennines.. The wind needs to blow from the East, as it was today.

Taken with some difficulty through our neighbour's tree at almost the same spot as the Possum/Galah confrontation the other day - we heard a Kookaburra laughing and I noticed one sitting on the far right end of the power pole cross arm (out of sight on the right) followed by a Magpie landing on the other end. Oh no, problems for sure. As I grabbed the camera and moved a bit to position myself, at the left hand end and middle were a further two Kookas with the Magpie keeping a watchful eye....surprisingly close. Magpies take exception to Kookaburras and usually take chase. In time, as I typed this the Noisy Miners joined in. The Kookas decided to retreat as usual. Game over.

Today 19 June.

Having difficulty with the berries. She dropped this one, but was soon back for more at Martin Mere WWT.

After a hike with Swiss friends at the Mills Canyon Park in Burlingame, I scouted for a good place with a clear view of airplanes landing at SFO, the San Francisco International airport. I found some dandelion blowballs in a local park. A dandelion blowball apparently has a spiritual meaning of surviving through all challenges and difficulties.

Due to intense harm and evil choices of others you are faced with so much darkness, devastation, difficulty, physical and emotional pain and suffering, unpredictability, fear, terror and so many other challenges that almost completely crush you which you are unable to express with words. And amidst all this suffering, when it feels like too much and you want to quit trying to survive, you work to keep looking for light and moving forward in healthy ways even when it seems impossible. Thank you for pressing on at a pace appropriate for you by working to care for yourself through many forms of nourishment, working to receive healthy support through God’s faithfulness and people who deeply care for you, through rest, tears, and graceful acknowledgment of truth and reality. You still have a long way to go on this journey and it is amazing how far you’ve come.
