Go Nagai’s Devilman tin toy manufactured by Billiken Shokai in 1998. 9.3 inches tall. I got this one as a Ray Rohr estate collection but this one’s just one of so many factory fresh case duplicates he had in his possession so I should say it is from Ray Rohr accumulations. Yet, I am glad that I can have a piece once owned by a great collector and the lover of toys.

The mask is a thick-cast latex version made out of the original 'Strength for Everyman' cast made by Violet Clark-Eddy for her paper mache version that was the one actually used on the cover of 'Famous Monsters of Filmland' # 2. (see full story with the previous photo)

To the best of my fuzzy memory, Takao Saito's Golgo 13 was my introduction to Japanese cartooning. In 1989, at the age of 11, I came across a comic that was released along with the Golgo 13 videogame for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

The game was alright but it was the Golgo 13 comic that blew my little brains out like a sniper's well placed bullet.

Guns, helicopters, sexy girls, and sideburns. It had everything that a prepubescent art-lovin' dweeb could want. The only problem was finding more of it.

The media landscape of 1989 was a completely different world than it is today. The idea of little kids spending their mornings watching Dragonball and Pokemon was not even the realm of possibilities. Having acquired a taste for the tasty goods of the Far East, I soon found myself tape trading for such "rare" movies like Akira, Devilman and Fist of the North Star. This stuff was underground, risque and for an 11-12 year old, EXPENSIVE!

Best of all, it was exciting and new.
