Six frame pano of Devils Tower minutes before sunrise. The night before there was a light dusting of snow.
Started off in a place called Devils Dyke where I stepped in a ton of dog shit, then off to a pub in harpenden where i stunk out the place and round the streets. All in all a good time was had!
When He created a little devil, like any proud mom the good Lord exclaimed "Darling little devil !!".And yes, this was long long ago, when the devil was a tiny tot and amused God with his endless pranks on the good little angels. He would steal their halos while they slept and prance around with the halos hung on his little horns. And then one day as he grew up,,like any harassed mom the good Lord exclaimed "The devil !!" :D.The good little devil is approximately 6 inches.

The Tasmanian Devil was once widespread in Australia and Tasmania. Now it it found only in Tasmania. It is severely threatened by a contagious, carcinogenic fungus that spreads during social interactions. It is listed by the IUCN as "endangered" and declining. I was fairly lucky to get this shot since the devils are generally very nocturnal.
The Tasmanian Devil is the largest surviving marsupial carnivore. An even larger marsupial carnivore -- the Thylacine, also known as the Tasmanian tiger or Tasmanian Wolf appears to have been persecuted to extinction sometime between 1930 and today. The Thylacine was an extraordinary example of convergent evolution. It looked remarkably like a dog -- except for its very stiff tail and the stripes on its back. Do check out the Thylacine Museum on-line for remarkable videos of the last Thylacine in the Hobart Zoo in the 1930s (http://www.naturalworlds.org/thylacine/).
For more information about both the Thylacine and the plight of the Tasmanian Devil I recommend book: "Carnivorous Nights - On the Trail of the Tasmanian Tiger" (2006) by Margaret Mittelbach, Michael Crewdson, and Alexis Rockman, which is simultaneously a humorous travelogue and a very serious review of the status of these two species and a passionate explanation of why they need to be saved..
