devil's tower, a little side camping trip on our way up to montana for colby and summer's wedding. this is the exact spot where we camped, in the shadow of the tower, in the midst of their 'holy month' .... it was an incredible experience being there, the entire campground was desolate, save for the two families camping there, also from colorado. yee-haw. the only bummer part of this little side trip was that andrew broke one of the tent poles getting our tent set up (seriously, he's not new to this) and i reconstructed one out of a branch, which didn't hold up too well in the crazy wind that was blowing thru. this was, however tht first trip we bought his ps2 on, and so it was oddly luxurious watching 'napoleon dynamite' in the tent, and hearing the wind rip thru the trees. the next morning was suprisingly calm and still.

The Devil's Kitchen on Gettysburg Battlefield in Adams County, PA. This area is a rarely visited location on the battlefield and is located between the base of Big Round Top and the famous Devil's Den in a wooded area. If you were to rewind 160 years ago on July 2nd of 1863, the Kitchen saw the advance of Evander M. Law’s and Jerome B. Robertson’s Confederates crossing over this unforgiving terrain on their famous advance towards their assault of Little Round Top.
Native nations consider this site sacred, and tie prayer cloths to trees along the trail surrounding the tower. Visitors are asked not to touch or photograph those, and I apologize if you see any in this picture. I tried my best to avoid photographing them.
Devils Tower got its name in 1875 by a white explorer. Native nations call the site Bear's Lodge or Bear's House and do not like the name Devils Tower. Several attempts to formally change the name to Bear Lodge have been met with opposition in Congress.
We've been to Wyoming many times over the years, but this was our first trip to Devils Tower.
