JKT48 at JKT48 Handshake Festival 2013

No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart.

Here’s the other lovely doll I got for Christmas: Devi Delacour, the demon with a good heart (according to her promotional info)! I will wait to use her stock outfit until Halloween. In the meantime, I will enjoy dressing her in non-demonic colors and styles. I love how dramatic she looks.

Happy New Year 2011 to all viewers.

A beautiful sunny day in the Himalayas. The sun is shining bright above us and the soft clouds flow in front of the Peak. Wow i loved this scene.

The most important temple at Lumbini is the Maya Devi Temple, which enshrines the traditional site of the Buddha's birth. The current temple stands on the site of earlier temples and stupas, including the stupa built by Ashoka.

The modern temple consists mainly of simple white building that protects ancient ruins, with the exact spot of the Buddha's birth identified. The delicate sandstone sculptures discovered here are now in the National Musuem in Kathmandu.

I was recently in Mumbai for a seminar, and during my trip there, I came to possess a number of valuable photo albums from the past. They originally belonged to my Uncle, Sri Salil Ghosh, who was an avid photographer of the past by hobby, and a journalist by profession.

He is approaching 90 now, and has no children and he lost his wife some years ago. I went to visit him in the evenings, and among other things, got him to find the old albums of his, now collecting dust, as he is unable to tend to them any more.

I proposed to take some of the albums back with me to Canada, and have the picture scanned and preserved, and the albums restored, before being sent back. My uncle instead offered to let me have the albums, as he believes that would be a better place for them.

I intend to have the hundreds of pictures scanned and preseved in due course, but could not resist taking a few pictures of the pictures, directly with the pocket camera I was carrying.

Here is an example. The picture is of Kanan Devi, the famous actress of early Bengali cinema. Those days, she was called Kanan Bala. She acted and sang, and reportedly had a beautiful voice. I have only one song of her in my iTunes collection, recorded in her later years.

The picture was clicked by my uncle in the 1940s, when he was serving in the Navy (then Royal Indian Navy). He got involved in the Naval Mutiny, and was wanted by the British Police and went absconding. He ran away from Mumbai, where the mutiny took place, and hid himself in Rural Bengal and Kolkata for a while till the issue blew over, and eventually returned to Bombay as a journalist. His naval career was over.

This picture was taken during that gap, somewhere in the outskirts of Kolkata. It was a black and white photo, but was hand painted, like the bindi and lipstick as well s her sari and blouse.

The albums have some famous pictures of the past, mostly from India but also abroad, taken during my uncle's trips abroad in the Navy and afterwards.

I hope to put up some of them in due course, when I get a chance to have them scanned properly.

Meanwhile, here is a sample, from an old dusty photo Album, originally belonging to Salil Ghosh, Padmashree, of Mumbai, and now belonging to me.

I am putting this up from a hotel in Shanghai where I stopped overnight on my way back home to Vancouver.

One day, Aigara and her sisters were camping in a forest at night when, for her surprise, her father suddenly came out of the woods! So happy to finally have found him, her sisters decided not to reveal that it was a fake created by one of the Dolls. That would have been the case, however, if Remi didn't start to feel something she wasn't programmed to do: guilt.

A temple of Nanda Devi in the higher Himalayas, amidst the meadows of Bedni.

This High altitude temple in Uttaranchal is also a major way-station for the "Nanda Raj Jaat Yatra", a ritual procession held every 12 years. Thousands of devout pilgrims make a hard trek to Roopkund.

They follow a mysterious four horned lamb born every 12 years near Wan village. The lamb leads them to Nanda Devi shrine through Bedni Bugyal, Roopkund & Homkund and then on its own, the lamb finally disappears.
