Raji has taken a series of photos, generously contributing them for me to post on my blog to narrate the Varalakshmi Puja which happens on the third Friday of Aadi Month in Tamil/Telugu calendars in South India. This is a prayer celebration attended mainly for women, to pray to the goddess for health, wealth and general good fortune.
This photo shows the entire decorations for Varalakshmi Vratham puja. Here one can see the beginnings of the celebrations as the puja most likely is about to begin.
The area in which devi sits is called Mandapam. Mandapam, alayalam, and nivas are all words used in conjunction with the 'house of god' or in this case, goddess.
Thank you for sharing these photos, Raji.
