On 28 October, ECDPM hosted a public debate with European Commissioner Neven Mimica, at the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague.

The European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development spelled out his plans for EU development policy and asked representatives of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NGOs, universities, think tanks and the private sector how they see the future of European development cooperation.

The debate, led by former member of the European Parliament Kathalijne Buitenweg, addressed the revision of the European Consensus for Development of 2005, the policy document setting the course for development cooperation in the European Commission and EU member states. Kathalijne Buitenweg also asked panelists and participants about the role of the Netherlands – and specifically the role of the Dutch private sector – in European development cooperation.

Debate panelists included Daniëlle Hirsch (Director of Both ENDS), Mirjam van Reisen (Professor in International Relations, Innovation and Care at Tilburg University and member of the Dutch Advisory Council on International Affairs (AIV)), Aart Jan de Geus (former Dutch minister and chairman of the board of the Bertelsmann Foundation), Christiaan Rebergen (Director General for International Cooperation at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and Giovanni Mastrogiacomo (Policy Coordinator, Policy and Coherence Unit at the European Commission Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Development).

Weather forecast: rainy days during all this week, and my head was asking for a clear sunny day.

Until that doesn't happen, I was looking at an old cell phone camera that seems to refuse to die, and pondering about its final destiny. In the memory card, I did found a picture from a 2005-2006 summer, a shadow shot of myself. I try to send the picture to an email account and it did work. (After, I did a fake frame Holga 35 mm around the image with the help of bighugelabs.com tools.)

Sometimes I though to think that this picture already gets filmic colours from start, red desert, concrete desert, even in the case that the frame wasn't inducing to think about film cameras.

From this point of view, maybe the final resulting image also fits in the Development theme. ;-)

New development has been taking over every square inch of space in the part of Fairfax where I live. I've been wanting to document at least one of these new developments and record some of the impacts. I figure this is a start.

All citizen centric services under one roof

“I have pleasure to share that the new Tehsil Complex and Patwar Station to be inaugurated today at Jagraon would provide all citizen-centric services under one roof. The double story building houses the offices and courts of SDM, Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar. Besides, it has Record Room, Patwar Work Station, Fard Kendra, a spacious Suvidha Kendra for people and special ramps for physically challenged”

Seems my camera isn't so good at night. I took two great shots, one looking at the new BBC Mailbox bit, and one looking the other way towards lights and cranes and new development and new life in Birmingham. This is the better one. Looking towards Broad Street.

This building used to be a gas station. It was converted into a real estate development office. Although occupied, there is a 'for sale' sign up front. I'd love to have this place to set up a nice little suburban/urban bike boutique.
