A ten-day course called ‘Certificate Course on Development Finance’ was organised by Center for Financial Accountability (CFA) at Janki Devi Memorial College in Delhi.
The objective of the workshop, which was organised from March 5 th to April 5th 2019, was to introduce students to the world of finance and critical discussion on development finance. The course attempted to help students build critical perspective on development finance and introduce them to financial institutions, their roles, relevance and critiques.
This course introduced different aspects of finance – looking at the fundamental premises on which the world of finance is systematically built, understanding the role of financial institutions beyond lending/banking, addressing the contemporary issues related to finance in India and critically looking at the gaps in governance, transparency and accountability in finance / of financial institutions. The workshop facilitators made finance palatable and highlighted the integral nature of finance in all walks of our lives.
The course was a combination of lectures, seminars, group discussion and a short assignment and evaluation. Around 40 participants including students from different regular courses such as Economics and Political Science attended this course.
Teams comprised of students from the College of Engineering, Ross School of Business, School of Information, and Stamps School of Art & Design created new products for preteens, incorporating the use of active technology, to improve physical and mental health maintenance and outcomes. A former faculty member, Kadlec and her team at Sova Solutions work with the U.S. Department of Education, state policymakers, and educational system leaders in more than 25 states to help improve the quality of policy development and implementation with regard to higher education and workforce development.
