The view from the workshop on the banks of the Mediterranean Sea in Alexandria, Egypt. I am here working with 12 budding filmmakers who will report a video documentary about the state of daily newspapers in this city of 8 million people. Day one is learning how to use the camera to tell a visual story. Robb Montgomery teaches a video journalism class in ALEXANDRIA, EGYPT and the students produce a documentary about the lack of a daily newspaper in the country's second-largest city.

IREX and MSI, Inc operate the Egypt Media Development Program, a USAID-funded training effort to help raise the journalism quality and independent skills for media houses and the journalists who work in them. Robb Montgomery has worked with the Egypt Media Development Program as a consultant since 2007 and has documented training efforts and impact in Alexandria and Cairo.
