Description

The Indigenous Peoples in Canada are an inspirational example of resilience due to their ability to withstand adversity and persevere through generations of oppressive colonial policies. Historic injustices persist, including the effects of cultural genocide from the residential school system of Canada. Here we symbolize bridging the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Peoples through gathering. Accomplished through the support of the seven grandfather teachings, represented by the seven rings of the installation, that originated with the Anishnabae Peoples, passed down through generations that ensures the survival of all Indigenous Peoples: Wisdom, Love, Respect, Bravery, Honesty, Humility, and Truth. Orange represents the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, and the reality that the support of non-Indigenous Peoples, as Indigenous Peoples assert rights to self-determination, will strengthen relations and begin to redress the historic wrongs. Orange is displayed in the ropes where the pattern pays homage to the creation of drums, where the ropes were weaved to honour culture. The installations flow towards the lifeguard stand reinforces the strengthening of the relationship and that the protection of Canada hinges on the unity between peoples. We aim to symbolize movement to a new relationship, one based on mutual respect that honours Indigenous treaties and rights. The road forward is long and nonlinear, but we commit to take the journey together.

Vincent van Gogh (1853- 1890) Self Portrait with Bandaged Ear 1889 Oil paint on canwvas

This famous self-portrait by Vincent van Gogh expresses his artistic power and personal struggles

Van Gogh painted it in January 1889, a week after leaving hospital. He had received treatment there after cutting off most of his left ear (shown here as the bandaged right ear because he painted himself in a mirror). This self-mutilation was a desperate act committed a few weeks earlier, following a heated argument with his fellow painter Paul Gauguin.

Van Gogh's fur cap secures his thick bandage and wards off the winter cold. Created in harsh conditions, this self-portrait demonstrates Van Gogh's determination to continue painting, reinforced by the objects behind him: a canvas on an easel and a Japanese print, an important source of inspiration. Above all, it is Van Gogh's brushwork and powerful handling of colour that declare his renewed ambition as a painter.

After being estranged for several years, my daughter, Jessica, and her dog, Jinx, spent the summer prior to her departure for Colorado State University to begin the pursuit of her dreams in earnest. Not entirely uneventful, it was a very good summer in many ways, nonetheless...for all of us (except perhaps Star who had to assert herself somewhat to maintain her dominant position in the household in the face of a Jack Russell terrier).

She is leaving today...and I will miss her...but, after a somewhat delayed start, she is finally and with determination on to better things. God speed, my daughter...

Tree growing in the rock of Stone Mountain, in Georgia.

After a nasty fall the other day and smashing up both my knees I thought I better play it safe and stick close to home, So today I did the rounds the knees held up but bending was hard, unlike my little friend "the tree" who bends and goes with the flow of whatever nature throws at it. My fall was a shock, and a reminder that I am not getting any younger.. It won't stop me though I will be back bouncing over rocks and cliffs in no time at all,

I feel sorry for birds in winter--but looks like this one is determined to get through winter------and looking forward to spring---thanks for visiting----BUSY--AWAY FROM FLICKR --BE BACK SOON~

Intensity and Determination - Beach Volleyball

So, following on from the previous upload, this is one one of the guys tackling a problem.

I have the greatest admiration for the tenacity and determination of these guys. To me, the bouldering philistine, they are just big lumps of rock, but these guys spent a good 3 hours just studying the problem and attempting time and again until hopefully topping out.

I guess it's just like me spending 3 hours with a waterfall, I just tend to go home with more skin on the end of my fingers!

With determination, we can get by on few resources.

This guy has been racing a long time, and there isn't a time during a race that he does not have a very determined stance.
