As we do every morning, my dog and I set out on our morning trek through the Corte Madera Marsh on the edge of San Francisco Bay, but on this dark, cloudy morning, it hardly seemed worthwhile to bring my camera along, since I would have needed a tripod if I hoped to come home with any images. But then, just as we reached our turn-around point, the sun broke through, and I was very glad I didn't leave my camera behind ~ not that I would ever leave it behind anyway ~ and no tripod was needed.

A shot of some of the details of a small gift box I discovered the other day. Taken with a Canon 60mm USM Macro lens. Type L for a better view.

Since we moved house I have had to get into the habit of taking our old dog for walks as she no longer has a big garden to run around in. Today it was a choice of going down through the Jacarandas or investigating the bushveld. I opted for the bushveld, which turned into a bit of a nature walk. Almost before we left I spotted this Olive Grass Snake (centre) Psammophis phillipsii, which worried me a bit as my dog is fearless when it comes to critters! This snake is mildly venomous. I found a pretty Wild Foxglove, Ceratotheca triloba, in the longer grasses (bottom centre) and then decided to walk up the hill, which was a bit rough and rocky and discovered a fascinating plant called Bobbejaanstert, Xerophyta retinervis (top centre). On the left-top photo is the view of the countryside at the beginning of the walk, bottom left is the vague path up the hill and bottom right was the view from the top of the hill. You can see a storm approaching from there. Fortunately I got back before the storm broke! An enjoyable walk which I will definitely do again.
ODC: Details of the Day - What makes today different from everyone else's? I spent some time wrapping up Hershey bars to look like mummies for my grandkids for Halloween. :0)
I wanted to save this for today because I was too busy yesterday all day at the Jeep dealership with Racheal. Monday, my birthday was a day I will never forget. Racheal came to visit me and she said she had to do something at the Jeep dealer here for her jeep and brought me. When I got there the people at the dealership said they had a surprise for me. First of all 20 people approached me. Each had a bouquet of flowers and handed them to me all the while singing Happy Birthday to me. Then, Jose, the salesman said "you think that's good, wait until you see what else we have for you" He brought me into the showroom and handed me the keys to a brand new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. That's me waving at you in the photo. I was totally flabbergasted and didn't believe what was going on. This is what Racheal bought me for my birthday!!!!! I'm still in shock and wondering what I did to deserve such an awesome daughter. She's leaving tomorrow to go back to Canada and I'll miss her so very much!
Thanks Everyone, I appreciate any comments/faves you wish to leave me. I have been very busy so not on here much, but will be back tomorrow.
Have a Terrific Tuesday!
Jo :)

29th October 2013. Special day today, my Son Dan, is six months. half way, through his teaching contract in Indonesia. Hopefully the second half will go quicker for us. He is having a great time and really enjoying Teaching, so much so, that he now knows that is what he is going to do when he comes home. Walking around my Daughter's (untidy) back garden I was reminded that the last person to use the old wheelbarrow was him when he was helping clear up after the builders, still has a puncture, so hurry up Dan, it needs fixing.
I have always been a fan of ocean jasper, these stones are so beautiful found only at a remote location on the coast of Madagascar that can only be mined at low tide, each slab of the stones feature different orbs in many colors, each of these stones is completely one of a kind even when cut from the same slab not two are ever exactly the same.
