Desolación es el sentimiento que me invade cuando descubro la capacidad devastadora del hombre. Destruir sin remordimientos nuestro entorno, el planeta... A nosotros mismos... A pequeña escala, a gran escala, sin sentido alguno. Qué pequeños somos, con lo grandes que podríamos ser.

Film: Efke R25, expired 09/2014 @EI40
Process: Beutler A+C self-mixed developer, 1:1:8, 6.25 min @ 20*C
Camera: Mamiya 645 Super, 80mm f2.8 Sekor, UV (010) filter
Scanner: Optronics ColorGetter Falcon drum scanner, wet-mounted scan
I have always liked the way the old Adox/Efke films look, so I thought I would try making up some Beutler developer - this was the 'original' specified for these films in the 50s.
This image is nicely sharp, and I am happy enough with my first attempt using this developer. I did manage to overdevelop though and I suspect that cutting back to around 5.25-5.50 mins, plus a little less agitation at the start will produce gorgeous negatives.
The inversion process resulted in a pleasing tint which I have retained.

Got out today after what seems like an age of sitting in watching the rain hammering against the windows.

Iceland has vast stretches of desolate rocky / mossy areas. Some people find it dull and relentless but I think it's quite beautiful.
Hope you enjoy too.

Road Trip 2013 - Day 8 - June 18 - Colorado National Monument
The canyons of the American Southwest are sure impressive and provide for magnificent grand views. It's not just the wide vistas though. In many ways, it's the details that stand as iconic for the desolate desert look ...
An abandoned farmhouse at the foot of Mt. Kaldbakur, Eyjafjörður, N-Iceland.
It was getting dark so I had serious problem seeing where I was going and then having exposure problems...and a very wet foot after accidentally putting my foot through a sheet of ice in the middle of a river.
Adventures ;)
Some pyromaniacs decided to burn down a portion of the woods. They really only defiled a raindrop of a puddle, but still.
The trail to Desolation Valley from Echo Lakes is anything but desolate. I bumped into ~30 people (mostly dayhikers) on the 5-6 mile hike in—numbers pretty much unheard of in much of the Eastern Sierra. Based on my brief conversations with folks, it sounded like Lake Aloha and Lake of the Woods were both pretty packed with campers, so I decided to head into Desolation Valley instead of camping out at Aloha for the night. Indeed, I saw only two other people while wandering around the lake filled basin searching for a good spot to settle down.
The next morning, I found myself awake at 5 a.m., and tossed around in my sleeping bag until popping out to enjoy the sunrise over Pyramid Peak and friends. I didn't bother brining a tripod, and ended up fiddling with some sticks and stones before catching the tail end of aspenglow.
