It occurred to me that nobody uses a vertical taskbar anymore.

Enigma 2.1
A small update - a very small update, not expected to appear on Lifehacker - taking some common problems and criticisms from 2.0 into account.
- Setup program now obeys your computer's unique Program Files directory, so those of you having problems on non-English systems should be fine now.
- NET Icon finally fixed. Turns out I just had to add a MaxValue setting. I can't remember who reminded me of this, but thank you very much.
- Reader now clears stuck links on mouseover, so you don't have to click it anymore. Thanks to moosatov for this idea.
- MoxaWeather's easier to switch to dark icons now; you can just change a number.
- Revised instructions in various places.
Get it here.

Blog
Update: Liquid Crystal Discourse is now a reality.
I've been thinking about starting a small blog on which to post my thoughts and philosophy on desktop modding in general. I'm sure I'd still post screenshots and updates here, but I think it might be interesting to try a more independent medium, especially since the Enigma LS project is likely to be a long and gradual development. This depends, of course, on whether I'd have any kind of readership. It would be a totally organic project; I just want to see if it would go anywhere. Feedback on this idea is entirely welcome.

I also thought I should do my part to evangelize the Lifehacker Desktop Customization Concept Development, courtesy of Chaebi69 and Projectvirus. It's just getting started and could certainly benefit from some new voices. :) And on that note:

Rainmeter
has returned to active development. Rejoice! As you can see, they're already working hard, and their Issues list is more ambitious than I expected. I actually found out about it through a comment on Arcs - it seems they've already finished an anti-aliasing overhaul for their next release. Exciting times.
They also told me they're open to suggestions. So there's a chance that we can get some of the concepts that pop up around here supported at the source code level. :)

Another minor update to the Lightning Sunset series. I've been experimenting with Rainmeter, and have managed to duplicate and (in my opinion) improve upon my Samurize config. I don't expect to look back.
I strongly encourage you to view this full-size, to get a good look at Rainmeter's gorgeous anti-aliasing.
I'm still using D-Color and Xentient, but the truth is I do prefer a clean, iconless desktop when I can manage it.

I realize this gradual progression isn't very interesting for most people, so I'm putting together some ideas for a completely different interface. I'll be dusting off some of my old Samurize experiments for it (probably with Rainmeter ports to come). It'll also be white. Just for fun.

Theme:
- CleanGlass VS. Requires patched uxtheme.dll - patcher here.
- Wallpaper: "clouds" on Social Wallpapering.
- Cube Wallpapers: Temple Street Sky by Mandolux. It's a single seamless skyscape that spans four desktops - ideal, in other words, for a cube. Unlike karindalziel, I use my virtual desktops not as "stations" but as a single cohesive workspace. To each his own, of course.
Startups:
- Autohotkey.
- Launchy.
- Yod'm 3D 1.4.
- D-Color.
- Start Killer.
Programs usually running:
- Rainmeter. Please see here for a more in-depth explanation of why I made the switch. You can download the skin by clicking the link at the top of this post.
- CD Art Display. I'm still on the lookout for an iTunes plugin for Rainmeter. For the moment, I've taken a CAD skin and made it blend right in with the rest of the Rainmeter layout. It wasn't hard, but I'd be happy to walk you through it.
Feel free to ask questions, as always. This is how I have fun.
My desk, where the magic (such that it is) happens. It's built into a corner of my kitchen, which is where I like to be.
Key ingredients: coffee, cigarettes and grid paper. You can't see the Xanax, but it's there, behind the monitor :)
The monitor is balanced on an old canister to elevate it. The magnet attached to the cannister says "Well behaved women rarely make history."
Usual stuff on display. A plant -in this case a plastic one, since all the rest... well, died. Candles. Books. Photo frames.

Small Space Design, Big Impact
This wall -when it's not the spotlight by accommodating furniture- is a constant problem. There's so much wall space, and so few things to do with it. Ah, the irony.
Specs:
Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3
Intel Core i5 - 2500K 3.3GHz
Trascend 2x4GB RAM 1333MHz
Intel HD3000 integrated graphics
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200rpm 64MB cache HDD
OCZ Vertex 4 128GB SSD
and Coolermaster Silencio 550 tower case.
I believe this is the most boring part of the room. It will always be white, and that hanger BELONGS in there. :P
So here's my home office workspace. We like to call it the "Geek Suite" but that's not really the reason I wanted to add it to the group. As you can see, from this and the other picture - the desk sits in between two windows. Off to the right I can look out over the lake and into the court, on the left I look up the curved street. It's very nice to have the windows with the desk in between....
I love this Ikea desk - it's very versatile, and as you can see - since there's no drawers - I added two rubbermaid three drawer units in back of the keyboard. The monitor sits at eye level and you can also see the iPad which I can use as a second monitor with AirDisplay
Back of the room - next to the chair. My keyboard which is hardly used by me, mostly my daughter goes at it now.
At sixteen there is a strange mix of stuff in my son's room (and head. He is part child, part young man.
The view of my home office from the door. I was shooting for not seeing any wires when you walk in, but fell slightly short.
Just for fun.
Wallpaper: another world wallpaper VIII by =night-fate
Applications, Extensions and Themes: as seen in the previous series, Lightning Sunset and Wing.
(Apologies for accidentally deleting a few comments.)
This is the corner behind the desk and to the right - you can just see the mousepads from the desk in the bottom left. This is a comfy reading corner.

I'm still tweaking and playing around with the right setup, but this should give you an idea of the desk I have at home. An idea I'm playing around with are moving the laptop to the right and the printer off the desk, the problem I think would be that the laptop and mouse would be fighting for deskspace. Also, I need to put mailboxes to sort some paperwork in and that would probably be best where the printer is now.
Taken a couple of days ago, this is my drawing desk. I'm working on some title page ideas for my Graphic Novel, 'Monster Hunter Cartigan'. I may create them digitaly but I'm more inclined to go down the traditional route. I'm inclined to use 4b or softer but this was produced with a 2B Graphite pilot pencil... I would have used softer graphite but these Pilot pens seem to be very limited on their leads. All of the flashback pages were created this way and darkened in Photoshop after being scanned and popped in the layout.
So, Linc put up his and Ted put up his. Like the sheep that I am, here's mine! This is my temporary workspace, as I'll be moving back over to my official group quite soon.
