So my birthday is coming up soon and last year I didn't buy anything at all for myself. I had a rather rough year and decided I should get something for myself and last week my previous sound system for my desk decided to die on me and I knew exactly what to buy, new speakers! Picked up a set of these Elac Debut 5.2 and overall I'm pretty happy with me. Music is very important to me, its been a pleasure to listen to my favorite music again.
I even made my own custom speaker stands out of some scrap wood.

Recently replaced my 2017 5K Retina with a Mac Studio and Studio Display monitor. The Mac Studio is mounted under my desk with a Oeveo mount.
This is my minimalist MBP set up, when docked it is connected to a surround sound system, three external HDD's, both my iPhone and iPad, an eyeTV and more. I tried my best to hide everything, I'm open to answering any questions you guys have!
I realized all this time, I never had a picture of my desk while in the past I did read on some lifehacker tips for tucking wires, desk layouts, and other ideas during the breaks at work. You can't see it because of the angle but there are wires from the monitor, ethernet, charger, laptop cooler, and cold cathode lighting behind the monitor that line up with the desk behind the wall tucked without clutter, more shots upon request. Also the monitor shares the macbook and also a quad core gaming desktop as well which is under the desk. Really was going for a minimalist desk without too much clutter as most of the work done here is either photo editing, design projects, or just midterms cramming at home.

Finally upgraded to the Bose Computer MusicMonitor speakers, much less intrusive than the Creative ones, and they sound awesome!

This was a royal pain only because the directions don't stress that you HAVE to attach the legs to the frame BEFORE attaching the frame to the desk. So that cost me some time.
So you need to put the frame together first, then attach the legs, then attach that to the desk, and then stand her up!
I got a new desk and bought a mac pro. I sold my ipod touch and im getting a new one soon. I mounted the sub on a shelf i purchased from ikea and i got an apple dock but i just set my ipod classic on it until i get my iphone.

a laptop hooked to my 19" monitor running linux mint 7 (release name Gloria)
wi-fi (Atheros chip) works out of the box
hooking up to an external monitor is very easy. easy option to choose resolution, and to shut off laptop LCD and just use external LCD.
the last time i tried installing Linux was Ubuntu version 6 i think, so many problems not solvable by ordinary people like me- like wi-fi, external monitor, etc. cause it involved typing things into terminals and changing all these text files.
now it's really becoming easier to use.
and when i plugged in my Nokia E65 cellphone, it immediately detected it without asking for drivers (even Windows had to ask for drivers).
All it asked for were to specify which 3g modem service provider to use-- it even put up a list of different Philippine 3g service providers. i chose mine, Smart cellular, and it was automatically configured.
i didn't test to see if it would connect though, i didn't want to pay the prepaid charge. maybe next time when my DSL is down.
turning off the laptop lid works normally. it didn't use to work properly before when i last tried Linux (used Ubuntu).
Linux Mint looks more decent than Ubuntu. Ubuntu is too brown.
i haven't had to type anything yet into terminals so far. whew.
and websites with Flash and whatnot work on Linux Mint without having to download this and that.
it's also much much easier to install SCIM for Chinese input (IME input method editor). the last time i tried it was a pain on Ubuntu in 2006.

I finally have a proper monitor! I got a 17" Apple Studio Display, which is very nice, and for only 155 with:
ADC-DVI adapter (a 100 dollar value... :) )
DVI-Mini-DVI adapter (20 dollars)
AND
an Apple Wireless keyboard (69 dollars new, I think)
shipping included.
Even if the monitor were sold alone for $100, then all of this could cost over $300, and I got it all for half the price. :D
Now, if only I could get a Mac Pro...
Oh, BTW, this image is technically an HDR, I just didn't process it in the same way that most people do.
