Day 38: 7.2.09
These little and not so little lampy things are credited with the nice lighting that some people have commented on. Course I had to do the sensible thing of shrouding them in darkness to hide the mess behind me but if anyone asks I'm being ironic ;o)
I've had these thing for years. In fact I'm sure the little desk lamp is in it's teens. The big one was fairly in expensive, a fiver I think out of Ikea or was it £8 and the little one was a fiver out of Argos or Index. That shows how long I've had it if it could have come from Index.
I'm pretty sure they'll be getting well used over the next year...at least until Jessops decided to sell of some of their studio lights for a fiver....it could happen :oP
Just across the river from the sheep, Lampounette is now a permanent installation in Durham and still plays its part in the biennial Lumiere. This huge desk lamp creating a pool of light around a tiny child gave me an opportunity to respond to this week's FlickrFriday theme of impossible.
ikea tertial lamp spraypainted as blogged thehappyhomeblog.
**EDIT: bizarely, this kind of fits into the latest interior styling challenge holly just posted, so I'm making this my submission this month (for now). feedback most welcome x
A little about this set-up: I’m really determined to practice, practice, practice when it comes to styling. So, instead of pinning up inspiring images from other people, I printed out my own work, stuck them in full view so I can see the good, the bad and the ugly and hopefully learn from it. Some of these I love, some I don’t, but it’s good to look at them and take note of what I would do if I was to re-create it. Or just be proud of the ones I do like...
Ok got a Ampera R2 Mini with a Telensa T2E1N-G-3 (5 pin photo cell). With help from my friend Simon, we have made this desk lamp. Works only at Night 🌃, it's not finished yet going to paint the wood to match the lamp.
A sculpture created from plumbing pipes and cables, artfully lit by a desklamp to form the word "CHAOS" on the white wall. Seen at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art.
This might be the Ultimate Desk Lamp, it has a 35watt Philips Sox Plus➕ Low Pressure Sodium Lamp with a remote Ballast. Even on the dullest of days this lamp will light up your office bright yellow.💡

Results of using a desklamp converted to a softbox as seen here

Quite surprised how good the results were, it softens the shadows nicely and the light wraps around the subjects very well giving a very even light, cutting down on highlights. Nothing special underneath, just a piece of white card. Wish now i had used white glass, maybe later :)
For the full story of these experiments, see the set here
If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.
Inspired by the tag line above used in a song written by Stephen Stills.
This little bug had come to a sad end against my desklamp. For The Sunday Challenge - bugs and beasties

Not much to say about this shot, except i hadn't planned on doing this. I was too lazy to do the one that i wanted to do.
D200, Sigma 30mm, Ghetto lamps from Argos for £3 each.
This is my grandson’s Rat-Cha, Gage. Who sat still for one, and only one, shot in the dark using a desk lap on the floor. We’re Here! -- GHETTO LIGHTING.
A quick look behind the scenes today;
This is how I set up the next shot. And is absolutely the cheap budget option. Two desklamps, a roll of old wrapping paper and 10 minutes from start to finish. That's it. Nothing but simple household items and an idea.
I should probably help bring in the washing now.
Found This Machine Lamp at Cortina Day, Monmouth Show Ground at one of the Auto Jumbles Selling Old Ford Parts £45.
Lamp came with a thin grey 2 core cable (black / blue) with a 100 watt halogen bulb that was melted in the ES / E27 lamp holder and a 2 pin plug (No Earth?).
I have Cleaned it and Rewired it with a 3 core cable so the Machine Lamp is Now Safe (Earthed). Fitted a new ES / E27 lamp holder and fitted a 4 watt clear filament bulb equal to a 40 watt incandescent.
Thanks to Simonlphoto this lamp also now has a Cool Solid Oak Base.
Tomorrow, July 2nd is my birthday. I will be 21.....haha

One bad fact is, i've only the integrated flash so i turn it of an used a desklamp
They have not the perfect Focus but it's amazing what i can get without a external flash
It won't be the last time i'll do that

A fruitbowl and a desklamp thats all you need to create this cute hanging chair for your msd. In a episode of Nicolle's dreams where she is dressing up the doll she made pictures in such a hanging chair, but she could buy a complete fruitbowl including the standard. Here in the netherlands nothing like that could be found so that's why I created it myself.
