Chosen as the front cover and image for January 2012 in the Wee Calendar desk calendar.

This Christmas bauble was hand beaded with sequins and pins by me. I have a Christmas tradition. I bead Christmas baubles for a select group of friends every year.

I have a Flick friend who is very generous of spirit and time who has been a great support to me this year, and who also sends me a beautiful desk calendar every year, of which the 2023 edition sits next to me as I type this. She has a Zen room that is decorated in calming pale colours, and in it she has a Zen Christmas tree on which she hangs white and silver decorations made by very special friends. I am honoured that this silver bauble is amongst them this year, along with a pair if white baubles made a couple of years ago for her when we first "met" through Flickr.

Each bauble is 15 centimetres in diameter and contain hundreds of sequins, varying in number depending upon the complexity of the pattern and the type of sequins I use. Most sequins in this bauble are 5mm in diameter, except the small stars which are 6mm and the large central star which is 10mm in diameter. I will use either a gold or a silver pin to attach it to the bauble. I always leave the stars until last, allowing a gap in the sequin chain to pin them in.

These baubles are smaller than some others I do, and because it is a simple pattern which starts from the inside and is worked outwards in ever larger circles, each bauble takes approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours per side.

It is however, a labour of love which I do to pass the time throughout the year.

In this case this is for the husband of a dear friend, who, when I asked him, requested a silver or blue bauble. In this case, he gets both.

PUBLISHED ON GREENPEACE CANADA DESK CALENDAR 2014, OCTOBER'S MONTH.

This shot was taken back in July for submission to the TD Bank employee photo contest for their annual "Friends of the Environment Foundation (FEF)" calendar. The theme for this year was Shades of Green and my photo was fortunate to be chosen amongst some great photos to be included in the Wall calendar version (there is also a desk calendar) for 2017.

FEF is a charitable foundation that funds and supports environmental initiatives nationally across Canada and in it's 25 years has funded more than 24,000 environmental projects. To learn more the link is:

The front end of the bookmobile box, with counter space for checked-in books, my desk calendar, my laptop, and a bookmark dispenser. The desk chair rolls around in the enclosure while I drive, so I have to be careful not to put anything valuable on the floor.

Thank you to everyone who pauses long enough to look at my photo. All comments and Faves are very much appreciated

1956 July Esquire Girl Calendar. Letherette desk calendar by Ernest Chiriaka.

A page from the Crawford's 1936 price list that forms part of a fine fold out desk calendar and desk blotter that the company issued on an annual basis during the inter-war years. The left hand fold contains a well printed colour catalogue showing 28 pages of their biscuit range both pre-packed and loose for sale by weight. These pages show part of the range of pre-packed biscuits in "Keepcrisp' airtight packaging - airtight paper based packaging, at the start of cellophane sheet wrappings, was an important step forward in allowing the display and sale of biscuits.

The pages show a mix of mostly sweet biscuits, along with some savouries, and includes some of the brands, including City, Rover and Everytime Assorted, that were also sold loose. Whereas Rich Tea biscuits are still available the exotic sounding Tri-Fruit Pufflets sadly are not! The list also gives recommended retail prices in shillings and pence.

William Crawford & Sons were a well-known biscuit manufacturer's and national brand who in 1856 had acquired a bakery in Leith; the 1813 establishment date they always quoted refers to the original opening of a bakers of ships biscuits that formed the original concern. The company grew and when their new and highly mechanised plant in Liverpool opened in 1897 they were amongst the biggest biscuit makers in the UK. They would, in 1960, be acquired by United Biscuits and the brand is still available.

For several years now, some colleagues at another company that I deal with, have produced a small number of desk calendars featuring different types of traction on the railway network. Generally it's trains which are being phased out, to be replaced by newer models.

This years calendar features 'Sprinter' diesel units, which has a couple of my photos. Next year the theme is 'Networker' electric units. I think in the 30 odd years they've been operating I've only photographed one of them, crossing the River Medway at Maidstone. This image was duly submitted earlier in the year. When a reminder was sent out last week that the closing date for submissions was the end of November, I thought I'd make an effort to double my number of photos.

So here we have South Eastern 'Networker' unit 465 183, leading an 8 coach formation into platform A at Waterloo East, with the 09.34 Charing Cross to Gravesend service. Very little effort on my part as I only had to pop out from work for around 10 minutes to get this shot. Waterloo East has it's four platforms 'numbered' A, B, C and D to differentiate from it's much bigger cousin served by South Western Railway.

Mixed media, 10x14. Can't bear to throw away certain meaningful scraps of paper. So I have pasted them in a desk calendar which will be an ongoing project. Guess you could call it a scrapbook or art journal.

The left hand fold contains a well printed colour catalogue showing 28 pages of their biscuit range both pre-packed and loose for sale by weight.

These pages show the large tins - or 'drums' - of branded biscuits that were usually displayed in grocers in large display cabinets with hinged glass tops allowing the assistant to weigh out the loose biscuits for the customer. The prcie per pound is shown in shillings and pence. Mostly sweet biscuits several of Crawford's biggest lines are shown here including Rover Assorted, Savoy Assorted and Everytime Assorted Biscuits. Some of these were also available in smaller sealed boxes for retail sale. Crawford's Cheese Biscuits are also shown here sold loose.
