Kick arse mosaic by Walter Womacka on Haus des Lehrers just off Alexanderplatz. Touristy shot of a bland, boring glass & concrete box, but it's the woman's face that's the best part of the mosaic for me.
wor einiger Zeit hatte ich gefragt, ob jemand wüsste wozu diese "Schalter" (hier mit rotem rundem Fenster) an der Aussenseite div. Lokale dienen.
Gestern sah ich wieder einmal so etwas und der Inhaber konnte endlich sagen um was es sich hierbei handelt:
wenn ein Feuer im Haus ausbricht und die Feuerwehr nicht hinein kann und von aussen den Brand löscht, schaltet sie hier mit einem Haken den Strom der Leuchtreklame aus um der Person am Wasserschlauch den Umstand zu ersparen selbst in den Stromkreis zu gelangen...
so einfach ists :-) und danke dem Herrn für die Auskunft

The offices of Des Pardes, a UK-based Punjabi newspaper, established in 1965, notorious for its outspoken editorials on Indian politics, and whose editor - Tarsem Singh Purewal - was shot dead outside this office building in 1995.
Incidentally, he was the father of one of my schoolfriends, and the family have never quite come to terms with his murder.

Even though the word schwarz means black in German, schwarzbier (pronounced ''shvartsbir'') are very dark brown, not really black.
Our version is richly malted with hints of chocolate and coffee but lightly roasted. On the palate, it is rich and soft. Its finish offers a hint of chocolate barley sugar, balanced by a fine but present bitterness. A rich and complex thirst quencher.
