Großherzog Pietro Leopoldo I. hat Ende des 18. Jhs. dafür gesorgt, dass aus der Heilquelle ein nobles Heilbad wurde. Er ließ u. a. die klassizistische und glanzvolle Stabilimento Tettuccio bauen, mit prachtvollem Säulenportikus und marmornen Zapftheken.
Montecatini Terme ist eine Stadt und italienische Gemeinde in der Provinz Pistoia mit 20.255 Einwohnern (Stand 31. Dezember 2013) und liegt in der Toskana etwa auf halber Strecke zwischen Florenz und Pisa.
Hauptort der Gemeinde ist der gleichnamige Kurort, eines der größten und berühmtesten Heilbäder Italiens. Montecatini gilt außerdem als ein Zentrum der Art-Nouveau-Architektur. In Montecatini Terme gibt es über 200 Hotels aller Kategorien.
Zur Gemeinde gehört außerdem das Bergdorf Montecatini Alto, dessen ursprünglicher Siedlungskern mit dem Hauptort durch die Funicolare di Montecatini Terme, eine der ältesten noch in Betrieb befindlichen Standseilbahnen Italiens verbunden ist.

How chemical pollution is threatening our survival
The Book was first published January 1st 1997 under the original title: "Altering Eden : the feminization of nature".
With the world population now exceeding six billion, it may seem strange that scientists are worried about threats to human fertility. Yet dramatic decreases in human sperm counts (a 50% decline since the 1940s) and soaring rates of testicular cancer suggest that there is cause for concern.
Science journalist Deborah Cadbury, here expanding her Emmy-winning Horizon program "Assault on the Male," presents evidence that the widespread use of synthetic chemicals has disrupted our and other animals' natural hormonal systems, in effect flooding them with megadoses of estrogen-like substances that "feminize" males and contribute to breast cancer and myriad other problems.
The list of suspect chemicals is alarming: DES, DDT, PCBs, plastics (used in everything from washing machines to dental sealants and food packaging), even birth-control pills. Traces of these substances have been detected in soil, water, wildlife and humans from around the globe, and have been implicated in such conditions as animal hermaphroditism, impaired sperm quality, microphallus, prostate cancer, endometriosis and even impaired intelligence.
How researchers began to recognize the problem and piece together its clues is a compelling and frightening story, which Cadbury tells with journalistic verve. Though she admits that a definite causal relationship between chemical exposure and reproductive abnormalities has not yet been proven, she finds the evidence compelling. This is a chilling account of industrialization's adverse - and perhaps irreversible - effects.

A cohort study - Association of Exposure to Diethylstilbestrol During Pregnancy With Multigenerational Neurodevelopmental Deficits - published May 21, 2018, shows that prenatal diethylstilbestrol exposure may lead to neurodevelopmental disorders across several generations : DES grandchildren are more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD (36% to 63%).

Karl August Döring (* 22. Januar 1783 in Mark Alvensleben bei Magdeburg; †17. Januar 1844 in Elberfeld) war ein evangelisch-lutherischer Theologe und Kirchenlieddichter. Der Sohn eines Oberförsters besuchte das Pädagogium des Klosters 'Unserer Lieben Frauen' in Magdeburg studierte 1802 bis 1806 an der Universität Halle/Saale Theologie sowie Philologie und war darauf Hauslehrer zu Waldenburg in Schlesien, wo er Mitglieder der Brüdergemeine des Reichsgrafen Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf (1700-1760) kennenlernte, durch deren Einfluss er dem Pietismus nahe kam. Nach einer weiteren Beschäftigung 1813 als Hauslehrer in Helmsdorff bei Eisleben wurde er Herausgeber für religiöse Schriften in deutscher und französischer Sprache. Von Herbst 1814 bis Ostern 1815 war er Prediger bei der Petrigemeinde in Magdeburg, danach zweiter Pfarrer zu St. Andreas in Eisleben. Im Juni 1816 wurde er Pastor der lutherischen Gemeinde zu Elberfeld, in welcher Stellung er bis zu seinem Tode verblieb. Hier gab er auch das 'Christliche Taschenbuch' heraus, das eine Sammlung von Betrachtungen zu den Festen des Kirchenjahres darstellt und Lieder zur Erbauung enthielt. Aus seiner Feder stammen über eintausend Kirchenlieder, erwähnt seien das Weihnachtslied 'Nacht umhüllte rings die Erde' und das Lied 'Du bist mir nah mit deiner Gnade'.

The Porte des Bombes (Bieb il-Bombi) is an ornamental gate in the Floriana Lines, which formed the outer defensive walls of Valletta, Malta. It was constructed in Baroque style between 1697 and 1720, during the reign of Fra Ramon Perellos y Roccaful, 64th Grandmaster of the Knights of St. John. Perellos' Coat of Arms appears above the gate.
During the 19th century, the British government dramatically altered the original design of the gate by adding a second archway to accommodate increasingly heavy traffic in the Grand Harbour area. A marble plaque was affixed to the newer arch, with the following inscription: "Ad majorem popoli accomodatum".
The short-lived Malta Railway once ran through a tunnel located near Porte des Bombes.
