"closed space" in geometrical, sculptural and structural plastic in paper
The memorial arch at Valley Forge, PA. The area is in the flight path of a major airport, making contrails unavoidable (the curved vapor trail on the upper left is one).
The arch dates to 1917 and is described in detail at this national park page:
www.nps.gov/archive/vafo/MONUMENT/vfmon08.html
See the sky through the arch:
A child lingers over a group of mushrooms as if to say "look what I found". I like the accidental design. The mushrooms direct attention upwards to patchwork pants, then your gaze follows the arm down to the hand hand, parallel with the adjacent mushroom cap, before returning to the mushrooms. A closed triangular path guides you through the frame.
See other mushrooms composed with shallow depth of field.
Sorry about the rubbish photograph. It's white watercolour paper pieces stuck onto white paper and layered up but it looks much too yellow. I wanted to get plenty of shadow into it so the shapes showed up well.
This is probably the best image of the night. 90 seconds with a blue 47b filter at f2.8, then desaturated. Low moving clouds, lit by the moon, give an aurora borealis effect in the sky.

A green filter was used to lighten the greens (trees, grass) and darken the yellows (dry grass, bare trees), giving a less distracting background to the fence, poles, and wires.
