Arctic Tern - Sterna Pradisaea
With its long tail streamers and general shape the Arctic tern deserves the local name of 'sea swallow'. Appearing white with a black cap, it is largely coastal although it can be seen inland on migration. It depends on a healthy marine environment and some colonies have been affected by fish shortages.
Arctic terns are the ultimate long distance migrants - summer visitors to the UK and winter visitors to the Antarctic.
This one deserves a few words. I've been playing lately with ICM - intentional camera movements. Not an easy technique, and far from obvious in a mountain environment. But I gave it a try on my last trip, and I felt that this one was a decent picture. Curious to find out the reaction... comments are more than welcomed!

After a well-deserved night rest we got up early and our first visit was the Wellington Botanic Gardens!
Wellington Botanic Garden is a 25ha of unique landscape, protected native forest, conifers, specialised plant collections, colourful floral displays and views over Wellington city.
The garden is classified as a Garden of National Significance by the Royal New Zealand Institute of Horticulture and is an Historic Places Trust Heritage Area.
The Main Garden begins just inside the Founders' Entrance gates on Glenmore Street and includes the duck pond. A focal point of the Main Garden is the pavilion.

This church deserves two saints in its name! Located in Petersburg IA (pop.150) a wonderful Gothic Revival design of stone. Currently under renovation so I could not go inside.
It is huge and occupies most of the town.. still has 225 families registered to it. I believe it was constructed in 1906.

All children deserve a safe warm house. Growing up without such a basic need destroys their childhood and impacts on their health and education.
With such a cold winter this year its important to remember those not as fortunate as ourselves, who don't have a nice warm home. Shelter do such a fantastic job in helping those with housing difficulties we think its important to recognise their efforts.

Today my well-deserved vacations begin, this year the afternoons arrive, it is a sad year, but I will rest 15 days at sea, I think I deserve it, right?

Beneath of north face of Mt. Kailash, a horse relaxes and roams the hillside after a long day of work carrying a heavy pilgrim at an altitude of 15,000 ft. (4,600m) over 12 miles (20km) on the first day of the 32 mile (52km) three-day Mt. Kailash circuit.
