Callistemon is a genus of shrubs endemic to Australia but widely cultivated in many other regions and naturalised in scattered locations.

Callistemon species have commonly been referred to as bottlebrushes because of their cylindrical, brush like flowers resembling a traditional bottle brush. They are mostly found in the more temperate regions of Australia, especially along the east coast which typically favour moist conditions, so when planted in gardens thrive on regular watering.

The Latin name Callistemon comes from the combination of 2 Greek words: 'callis' meaning beauty and 'stemon' meaning stamen, referring to the flowers of the plant.

Flowering is normally in Spring and early Summer (October–December), but conditions may cause flowering at other times of the year. In my area they begin to bloom in the middle of Winter, as you may see in this photo.

The obvious parts of the flowers are stamens, with the pollen at the tip of the filament, which attracts so many bees and other pollinators. The flowers vary in colour with species; most are red, but some are yellow, green, orange or white.

It's beautiful to see the flowers swaying at breeze, even the most light and smooth, and this inspires me to take a photo of this flower again.

White Mouth Dayflower, Commelina erecta

Dendrobium nobile, popularly named as "Olho de boneca" ( Doll eye) is a member of the family Orchidaceae. It has become a popular cultivated decorative house plant, because it produces colourful blooms in Winter and Spring.

It is a plant native to southern China, the Himalayas and Indochina.

The species is also reportedly naturalized in Hawaii, and is the National flower of Sikkim (India).

Arundina, or bamboo orchid (Arundina graminifolia) is a species originating in tropical Asia, extending from India, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, northern China to Indonesia and the Pacific islands. It was introduced in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica and Panama.

It is a multiperene terrestrial orchid with a reed stem, forming large masses that grow up to a height of 70 cm to 2 m.

It blooms in summer and autumn, with splendid flowers (ten at most) in succession at the end of the branches. The flowers, 5 to 8 cm in diameter, have a pink lilac hue and a white disc with a purple lip.

With only 200 plants growing in the wild in Singapore, the species is close to extinction in this country, caused in large part by the destruction of its natural habitat, namely the rainforest and mangroves.

Today it is common and abundant in Brazil, mainly on the coast of Paraná, being widely used in landscaping.

This photo is my tribute to International Women's Day, although I believe that every day should be dedicated to everyone without distinction.

However, I see some similarities between this very interesting flower and women in general, always balancing themselves in the situations of any kind. Many reach a height not proportional to the delicacy of their shape, either in their professional life or in the strength they acquire from the hard life that most of them lead...

Exotic delicacy. I am totally nuts about them. As a child, I used to eat raw walnuts with the bitter thin skin, which can be easily removed. However, if you want to be healthy try to eat the way they are.

The yellow thin skin around the meat is slightly bitter, the brown one is delicious.

The thin skin around the meat, called the pellicle, contains tannin that is associated with promoting heart health.

Now, I know why we have never visited the doctor.

Use gloves to remove the green husks which can be used to make a tincture after sun drying them.
