Inside the old Freeport,IL. coaling tower. I have been wanting to visit this site for a long time, but its remoteness has always been an obstacle. When I finally got there, it was actually a little creepy. It has obviously become a teen hangout- the smell of many a fire, clothes, beer bottles, and the graffiti filled the place. Its sad to see history defiled this way...

Here it looks as if the otter is showing off his "catch". The unfortunate thing is although this is a cute picture, it is deadly serious. If a piece of one of those tires were to be ingested, it most likely would be equivalent to a death sentence.
Apparently this toy truck got into the area that the otters congregate near The Great American Fish Company. Clearly this otter thought this to be food and was chewing on one of the tires. Hopefully the manufacturer designed the tires to be indestructible. If not, a piece of tire could surely do damage to the otter's intestinal track.
What could be more pure than a white flower? Seeing it lying on the ground was like a defilement, but nothing lives forever, except in a photograph.
This one was captured in downtown Daytona Beach in the park on Beach Street. Local artists and gardeners got together to plant flowers to spruce up the run down area that has fallen victim to time, just as this flower has.
