Impossible, you say? Well, this shy and rare deep-sea creature, the Crested Rainbow Shell (Buttonia cristata), can do it :) But how? It eludes me...
This was literally the very last attempt at getting a sharp photo of these two buttons plus a little bit of rainbow reflection created by the afternoon sun and a large, diamond-shaped glass crystal (that was the elusive and also most difficult part). I wanted to photograph at least one of these four lovely vintage glass buttons which I'd bought at a very special button shop many years ago. But I didn't know how. They don't look like regular buttons, so to simply get as close as possible and take an abstract kind of image wasn't an option. I tried a few things yesterday, but I didn't really like any of it, except that I knew I wanted to have at least a very tiny rainbow reflection on the button. Today I then had the idea to temporarily glue two buttons together at the shanks using modeling clay – that way the shanks would be in the image as well, and you can now see that these are buttons. But I still had to wait for the afternoon sun to move around and shine through my window to get the rainbow colour reflection. This is why I'm so late today.
Size of the button's top: 1x1 cm / 0,39x0,39 inches. Setup: As mentioned above, I've stuck the buttons together at the shanks, and, also with modeling clay, fixated the bottom button on an aqua-blue coloured glass tealight holder (which I'd turned upside down). Lightsource: natural daylight, sunshine reflected by a glass crystal. Processed in DXO PhotoLab 4 and in Luminar AI where I've enhanced the details on the upper button and added some glow to the background.

Telašćica is a bay in the southeastern part of the island of Dugi Otok, Croatia, in the Adriatic Sea. It is a designated nature park, full of wildlife and sea creatures. Telašćica Bay is the largest and safest natural harbor on the Adriatic.
October 2022 was very warm, and on this day many people went to the beach to swim. Makarska is a city under the Biokovo mountain, a city with beautiful pebble beaches, a city that many tourists from all over the world like to come to.

From a time long ago, the USS John F. Kennedy CV-67 (formerly CVA-67) is the only ship of her class (a variant of the Kitty Hawk class aircraft carriers) and the last conventionally powered carrier built for the United States Navy to take the seas. She is nicknamed "Big John".
After nearly 40 years of service in the United States Navy, Kennedy was officially decommissioned on 1 August 2007. She is berthed at the NAVSEA Inactive Ships On-site Maintenance facility in Philadelphia and, until late 2017, was available for donation as a museum and memorial to a qualified organization. In late 2017, the Navy revoked her "donation hold" status and designated her for dismantling.
She took the seas to support during the Yom Kippur War, was also deployed to the Mediterranean Sea for Beirut, Lebanon after 24 marines were killed by bombing in their sleep. Additionally, she took the seas in Operation Desert Storm, as well as to support actions in the Mediterranean Sea off of the coast of Yugoslavia. Afterward she returned to Philadelphia where she sits in the Navy Yard at the mouth of the Delaware River. Old soldiers don’t die. They just fade away.

Actually I only tried to make this small wrinkled and folded up part of a small translucent plastic bag (which contained roasted, salted peanuts with skin - very healthy, especially with the skin, because that contains a high amount of antioxydants and dietary fibres, even if the peanuts are roasted) look nice "somehow". Then, while I tried different ways of illuminating it (I placed it on colourful Christmas lights, and used a bright LED light, and a small LED torch which emits a rather blue-ish light), I noticed that it reminded me of a deep-sea creature, a jellyfish, maybe. So I decided to go for that. The irony here is rather sickening, of course, because plastic is a material that should have no place in our oceans at all, and yet they are full of it...
Processed in Luminar (the usual suspects: Luminar's own "Accent Al" Filter, Detail Enhancer, Micro-Structure, HSL, Channel Mixer, removed some noise...), and ON1 Photo RAW (HDR Look subtle).
A Happy Macro Monday, Everyone!
Eigentlich hatte ich nur versucht, diese zerknitterte kleine Plasiktüte (es waren geröstete und gesalzene Erdnüsse mit Haut drin - im Übrigen sehr zu empfehlen, da insbesondere die Haut voller guter Inhaltsstoffe wie z.B. Antioxidanten steckt) "irgendwie" interessant aussehen zu lassen, merkte aber beim Herumprobieren mit verschiedenen Lichtquellen (darunter eine bunte Weihnachtslichterkette, einer meiner LED-Strahler und meine kleine Taschenlampe, die ein etwas bläuliches Licht verströmt), dass ich sie, je nach Lichteinfall und Drapierung, wie einen Tiefseebewohner oder eine Qualle aussehen lassen könnte... Eine böse Ironie, denn nichts hat in unseren Meeren so wenig verloren wie Plastik, und doch sind die Ozeane voll davon...
Entwickelt in Luminar (im Wesentlichen die üblichen Verdächtigen, hier z.B. Luminars Eigenentwicklung, der "Accent-Al"-Filter, dann Detailverbesserung, Mikrostruktur, HSL und Kanalmixer - und noch einiges mehr, ich probiere immer ziemlich viel herum) und
ON1 (HDR Look subtle).
