In the midst of the cave of the heart, in the form of the I, in the form of the Self, unique and solitary, Brahman’s glory shines directly from Himself on Himself. Penetrate deep within, your thought piercing to its source, your mind having plunged into itself, with breath and sense held close in the depths, your whole self fixed in yourself, and there, simply BE!
This picture is dedicated to Janet! May she be in the Light and have a good journey! <3

Karthigai Maha Deepam the great festival in Tamil Nadu, India culminated yesterday with the lighting of a fire atop the Arunachala hill.
Paper star, marking a Christian house in my neighbourhood, adding its pre-Christmas glow to the street brightened for Kathigai Deepam, the local Tamil festival of lamps.
... I am the all-pervasive consciousness in which all bodies and minds in the world are appearing and disappearing. I am that consciousness which remains unchanged and unaffected by these appearances and disappearances. Stabilize yourself in that conviction. That is all you need to do!

Every evening, right after sunset, the Ganga Aarti (ritual of offering prayer to the Ganges river) is held at Dashashwamedh Ghat (the main ghat in Varanasi on the Ganges River).
Several priests would be performing this ritual by carrying deepams (oil lamps) and moving it up and down in a rhythmic tune of bhajans (Hindu devotional songs and often of ancient origin).
When I took this photo, there were seven priests and I walked up and down the area where I was before deciding on the particular face I wanted to photograph.
ps: I actually have ONE gallery called WHY NOT???
The obsessively chosen and truly excellent photos there are attention catching, nicely framed, aesthetically pleasing, sharp and clean portraits of children from all over the world.
Please visit the gallery and enjoy.
Ater the Deepam is lit, worshippers will chant a prayer or Shloka.

An aarti is a devotional ritual that uses fire as an offering. It's usually made in the form of a lit lamp, and in the case of the Ganges River, a small diya with a candle and flowers that's floated down the river.
The offering is made to the Goddess Ganga, also affectionately referred to as Maa Ganga, goddess of the most holy river in India
the great festival in Tamil Nadu commences today.
The boy or girl? sells bangles along the girivalam road, which leads around the holy Arunachala hill in Tiruvannamalai.
that is the full moon night, January 2012, coinciding with the birthday of the sage Sri Ramana Maharshi. A 100 000 , - like a human garland -walk around the holy Arunachala hill. At different places on the way, ladies light small deepams (lights) between stones.
Full moon day and the celebration with birth of Lord Muragan and rows of oil lamps are lit in our home today.
A diya is an oil lamp, usually made from clay, with a cotton wick dipped in ghee or vegetable oils.
Eine Diya ist eine einfache handgefertigte Öllampe – meistens aus Lehm, in der sich ein Baumwohldocht befindet, der in Ghee oder Pflanzenölen eingetaucht ist.

By far the worst, most simple and meaningless light artwork of the thirteenth edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival. Unimaginative and too simple, a number of floating bowls with lights in them. There is nothing worse than this this year. Shame on you. Both the artist and the organization.

Amsterdam Light Festival
Amsterdam Light Festival is an annual light art festival in Amsterdam. Artists, architects and (light) designers from all over the world bring their light artworks and installations alive during the festival every winter.
Edition #13 is from 28 November 2024 until 19 January 2025. In total 27 light artworks will illuminate the iconic canals of Amsterdam. For Amsterdam Light Festival 2024-2024 the theme is Rutuals. Rituals have traditionally helped us through all kinds of transformations; from past to future, from winter to summer, from youth to adulthood. Light plays a vital role in many rituals, as a vibrant symbol of joy, energy and life. We use fireworks to usher in the new year, candles to commemorate, and midsummer fires to welcome the solstice. Light adds something mystical and sacred to a ritual like no other element can. And rituals unify. Rituals bring people together.
That’s why we celebrate Amsterdam750 with light. With art. With each other. With Edition 13: Rituals.
