Breathe deep, stay steady

Keep your wits at the ready

"I've got this," said she

Looking back at 2017, one of my favorite chases besides shooting the Pickens in South Carolina was our trip to Quebec to follow the Central Maine & Quebec. It was really neat to see the Bangor & Aroostook "Heritage" SD40-2F 9017 barn leading train number one across former CP Sherbrooke Sub. Hidden deep in the woods CMQ number 1 is making track speed passing through the town of Milan, Quebec on Saturday July 22, 2017. Photo by Zachary Carlson

Soybeans are about ready for harvest, in some way everyone is affected by the harvest of soybeans each year.

This Royal Doulton Flambe rabbit was bought by my parents. It stood on the dressing table in my bedroom for as long as I can remember. It is a miracle he survived my childhood. At almost 3" in height the little rabbit is one of my treasures.

Deep snow marked the edge of the road to Crater Lake, Oregon. This was May 30th. I wonder how much snow there is in the winter!

I want to stand with you on a mountain.

I want to bathe with you in the sea.

I want to lay like this forever.

Until the sky falls down on me...

Truly Madly Deeply , Savage Garden

Afternoon light indoors from a distant window. Light experiments with a Calla Lily cut from my Gold Coast hinterland garden.

I love the color of the tulips. Can't get any more purple than this. HFF!

This is my phantom...my depression, my anguish...my other. The proverbial monkey on my back. Always haunting me...always taunting me. As much as I love shadow play and seeking light to draw out the lengthy darkness, there is always the notion that just underneath it all is the pain. And every now and again, he pops up to remind me that he is always near. For years now I have been the casual observer of scenes like this street image, but lately I have been noticing how much I need to put this figure into them. How compelled I am to look for him.

After seven years of sobriety, I am constantly challenged to discover the reasons for what it is I do. And lately, I am looking harder than ever before.

She was deep in thought.

Richard Reuben and I took a walk down to the pond, of course I took my camera. When we got the the kids just started wadding out into the water. I think they liked seeing the mud and leaves come up from underneath. I have a photo of booth of them playing in the pond, I will post it after a while.

It isn't until you come to a spiritual understanding of who you are - not necessarily a religious feeling, but deep down, the spirit within - that you can begin to take control.

In Sully, Iowa, this was once a gas station, now it's the Deep Rock Ice Cream Shoppe. Under new ownership and opening soon?

I decided to look at my digital archives, to recover and reprocess some old straight-out-of the point and shoot camera jpgs.

I'll post one picture every thursday, with the motto "Great places, bad cameras"

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This is a 2 panel mosaic portrait of NGC 6188, the famous dragons of Ara. Nestled deep in the southern hemisphere in the constellation of Ara, this emission nebula is a magnet for us astrophotographers... and for good reasons, it packs some serious visual punch! With its striking resemblance to 2 dragons and its swirling gas clouds, it's has a very mystic appearance.

At the bottom right corner of the frame you will also find NGC 6164, also called theDragons Egg.

Each year, I circle back to this object to measure how my skills have levelled up. And you're looking at, in my humble opinion, the best shot I've managed yet... I think... My favourite at least !!

In framing this image, my goal was to enhance the sense of movement and flow. By highlighting details in the shadows and striking the right balance with the colours, I've tried to capture the dynamic essence of the interaction between the gasses, the hot and the cold and the dust blocking light.
