The most impressive features of Helmsley castle are its large earthworks with two deep ditches that are cut down through the outcrop of rock on which the castle stands. This ringwork formed part of the original earth and timber castle built in the early 12th century by Walter Espec. Following his death in 1154 the castle passed to his brother-in-law, Peter de Roos, and it would be held by descendants of the de Roos line until 1688.
Robert de Roos rebuilt the castle in stone some time after 1186. He replaced the timber palisades with a stone curtain wall that had round corner towers and two entrances, one in the south-east below a strong square tower and one in the north in a gatehouse with paired round towers. He also added two great towers, the east tower and west tower. The defences were further strengthened in the mid 13th century with the addition of barbicans to the north and south gates. William de Roos inherited the castle in 1285 and made substantial changes to the property. He added another storey to the east tower, creating new accommodation, and he strengthened the south barbican. He added a new hall that abutted the west tower which he had converted into comfortable private apartments. The castle remained little changed until the 1560's when the west tower and hall were converted into a fine Tudor house for Edward Manners.
The castle defences remained untested until the Civil War, when, in 1644, a parliamentary force laid siege to the royalist held castle for three months. Lack of food finally forced the garrison to surrender and the castle defences were subsequently demolished to prevent any further threat. The east tower was blown up, and much of the debris still remains in the ditch below. The Tudor house was left intact, but was abandoned in the early 18th century in favour of a new house in the adjacent Duncombe Park.

Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. The band is considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies".[6] They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
Deep Purple have had several line-up changes and an eight-year hiatus (1976–1984). The 1968–1976 line-ups are commonly labelled Mark I, II, III and IV. Their second and most commercially successful line-up consisted of Ian Gillan (vocals), Jon Lord (keyboards, backing vocals), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums), and Ritchie Blackmore (guitar). This line-up was active from 1969 to 1973, and was revived from 1984 to 1989, and again from 1992 to 1993. The band achieved more modest success in the intervening periods between 1968 and 1969 with the line-up including Rod Evans (lead vocals) and Nick Simper (bass, backing vocals), between 1974 and 1976 (Tommy Bolin replacing Blackmore in 1975) with the line-up including David Coverdale (lead vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass, vocals), and between 1989 and 1992 with the line-up including Joe Lynn Turner (vocals). The band's line-up (currently including Ian Gillan, and guitarist Steve Morse from 1994) has been much more stable in recent years, although keyboardist Jon Lord's retirement from the band in 2002 (being succeeded by Don Airey) left Ian Paice as the only original Deep Purple member still in the band.
Deep Purple were ranked number 22 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock programmer and a poll on British radio station Planet Rock ranked them 5th among the "most influential bands ever". The band received the Legend Award at the 2008 World Music Awards. Deep Purple (specifically Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Gillan, Glover, Evans, Coverdale and Hughes) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

The 97-foot Pedro, which stands adjacent to the Mexico Shop East and the Sombrero Restaurant, has 4 miles of wiring and weighs 77 tons. He stands 18 feet deep in solid clay. You can even drive your car through his legs!!

The Owyhee River canyon consists of a steep, rhyolite walls ranging in height from 250 feet to over 1000 feet near the Oregon border. The west end of the river below the confluence with the South Fork Owyhee River is known as the “Grand Canyon of the Owyhee.” Within this gorge can be found extensive areas of rhyolite pinnacle formations known as “hoodoos." This is the most dramatic area of hoodoo formations within the entire Owyhee River system. Floating the Owyhee is popular in the spring during higher water flows. Low water float trips are also possible in smaller craft.

When the declining businesses in Deep ellum, new construction threatens many of the Older buildings as early as 1920. Also structures along commerce and main streets in deep Ellum are threatened as well. Update May 2020 this entire strip is getting a gut job and facelift. Th Gypsy Rose tearoom sign is gone replaced with a Prophet Bar Sign Update The building the Gypsy Rose was in got demolished April 21, 2021

Misteriously dark hematite with jasper cabochons were captured in sterling silver wire web and placed in heart-shaped frames. The colour isn't solid - contains dark hematite, black, red streaks, semi-translucent areas. Perfect mixture created deep inside the Earth.
Deep Dark Love Earrings have truly Victorian spirit.
Were oxidized and polished.
