Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. The band is considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970. Deep Purple, together with Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, have been referred to as the "unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal in the early to mid-seventies".[6] They were listed in the 1975 Guinness Book of World Records as "the globe's loudest band" for a 1972 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre, and have sold over 100 million albums worldwide.
Deep Purple have had several line-up changes and an eight-year hiatus (1976–1984). The 1968–1976 line-ups are commonly labelled Mark I, II, III and IV. Their second and most commercially successful line-up consisted of Ian Gillan (vocals), Jon Lord (keyboards, backing vocals), Roger Glover (bass), Ian Paice (drums), and Ritchie Blackmore (guitar). This line-up was active from 1969 to 1973, and was revived from 1984 to 1989, and again from 1992 to 1993. The band achieved more modest success in the intervening periods between 1968 and 1969 with the line-up including Rod Evans (lead vocals) and Nick Simper (bass, backing vocals), between 1974 and 1976 (Tommy Bolin replacing Blackmore in 1975) with the line-up including David Coverdale (lead vocals) and Glenn Hughes (bass, vocals), and between 1989 and 1992 with the line-up including Joe Lynn Turner (vocals). The band's line-up (currently including Ian Gillan, and guitarist Steve Morse from 1994) has been much more stable in recent years, although keyboardist Jon Lord's retirement from the band in 2002 (being succeeded by Don Airey) left Ian Paice as the only original Deep Purple member still in the band.
Deep Purple were ranked number 22 on VH1's Greatest Artists of Hard Rock programmer and a poll on British radio station Planet Rock ranked them 5th among the "most influential bands ever". The band received the Legend Award at the 2008 World Music Awards. Deep Purple (specifically Blackmore, Lord, Paice, Gillan, Glover, Evans, Coverdale and Hughes) were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

Die Margarite
Ach, ich hätte eine Bitte,
pflück mir doch eine Margarite.
Ich zupf dann ihre Blumenkrone
und frage sie, ob es sich lohne,
um deine Hand zu werben.
Ich möchte mir ja nichts verderben.
Moral:
Fragst du warum, ob, wie und was,
so ist auf Korbblütler Verlass.

Marguerite/Daisy
oh, i'd like making a request,
please, do pick me a marguerite.
then i'll pluck her flower crone
and ask her, whether it is worth
in order to ask your hand in marriage.
i would like to see nothing blight.
moral:
if you're asking, how and what and why,
on daisy family you can rely.

On Feel It Break, Austra has crafted a dark, danceable album hearkening back to the sleazier side of New Wave but still deeply rooted in Stelmanis’s operatic and classical upbringing. While on a recent West Coast tour, the band stopped in for a late night session with director Otto Arsenault and set designer/costumer Sophia Rubio.
BIO
Formed in Toronto, Canada in 2010, Austra’s debut LP Feel It Break represents almost 10 years of performance and musical progression for songwriter Katie Stelmanis. Now augmented by drummer Maya Postepski, and bassist Dorian Wolf, the Austra sound is more centered and focused than ever. Pianos give way to keyboards as songs build and pull, their urgent dark melodies arpeggiate and multiply through an army of synthesizers around Katie's haunting, majestic voice.

“We owe the presence of this land here to a gentleman by the name Lord Kitchener,” Deep, the manager of the Wildflower Hall hotel, said. “Shimla was the summer capital back then, and the Viceregal Lodge—which you can visit, by the way—used to be the Viceroy’s residence. Kitchener had won a battle for the British and thought that he would be made the Viceroy of India. But he wasn’t. So he came here and built his residence at a higher elevation than the Viceregal Lodge. He wanted to look down on the Viceroy.”
“When did Kitchener come to Shimla?” I asked.
“1904. There were only two trees in this plot when he came here. He was passionate about gardening and he created the forest that you see around the hotel. 25 acres of forest out of which 1.4 acres is now occupied by this hotel. All the properties on this plot over the years, starting with Kitchener’s, have been called Wildflower Hall because of the wildflowers that grow here. After Kitchener’s time, the Agricultural Society of India used this land. They, however, messed around with some facts to evade auditing. So, someone burnt the building to the ground in anger. This land then went up for auction in 1996, and I came here in 2000 to help open this hotel.”
Deep had started his career as a chef, but had chosen to transition from his Executive Chef role at an Udaipur property to a management-focused role in Shimla.
“Do you miss the kitchen?” I asked.
“I do… a lot, actually. But just last year, I spent some time working in the kitchen of a two-star Michelin chef in Modena. I had worked with him in Delhi before. I was still junior in my profession then and worked at a different kitchen, but I went up to him and said, ‘I want to open a restaurant with you.’ I would be on breakfast duty in the hotel I worked at from 5:30 to 11 in the morning, and then run over to the Italian chef’s kitchen to learn from him. For a period of 21 days, he fed me food without salt. ‘If you want food, you come to me,’ he said. I was perpetually hungry during those twenty-hour workdays.”
“But why no salt?”
“He wanted me to develop my palette. He wanted me to really taste the tomato, and really taste the olive. It was during this time that I began to slowly taste success as well. The chef at the hotel I was working at once asked me if I knew how to make ravioli. I had learnt how to from the Italian chef. So, within 15 minutes, I had pasta sheets rolling out and within 45 minutes I had completed a task that he had expected to take a few hours. So I began to earn respect in the kitchen. Soon, the Italian chef and I opened up our restaurant, and over time, I travelled and learnt about different cuisines and the right preparation. International exposure is very important for a chef. A few years ago, the British chef, Jamie Oliver, actually invited me to London.”
“Wow.”
“He wanted to learn how to make Indian food and he had heard about me. So I spent a month and a half in London with him. It was a great experience. In fact, I was featured in the first edition of ‘Jamie Magazine’.”
