Deep Purple are an English rock band formed in Hertford in 1968. They are considered to be among the pioneers of heavy metal and modern hard rock, although their musical approach changed over the years. Originally formed as a progressive rock band, the band shifted to a heavier sound in 1970.

As Sir Angus gazed up towards the deep gray heavens, the gentle rain pattered on his helmet and heavy armor. His thoughtful stare swept the curve of the river and his highlander band, all weary from the horrible night they'd just endured. He then surveyed the hideous surroundings. On one side of the slow-moving, brackish river rose towering moss-encrusted trees that barely stirred in the wind. Below, a gnarled swampy morass hid whatever wretched beasts (or men) that might be lurking therein.

"What on earth could possess a man to live in such a horrid abode?" Jeremy queried.

"I know not, my wee brother." answered Sir Angus, pulling his cloak more closely about himself. "The shrieks we heard in the blackness of night are still ringing in mine ears."

"I've got a bad feeling 'bout this, Angus." replied the young knight.

"As do I." Sir Angus's brow wrinkled in concern.

No sooner had these words left his mouth when screams and war cries echoed through the swamps, which instantly came alive with savages armed with bows! Arrows whizzed through the air.

"Shield wall to the left!" ordered Sir Angus.

The highlander pikemen immediately obeyed.

The Garheim archers retaliated with their own bolts, keeping the savages' volleys down.

"Look, Angus, to the front!" Jeremy shouted.

Sir Angus turned to see a canoe stretched across the river, barring the way ahead. It was stuffed with a large number of well-armed rebels!

"We outnumber them, men! Full speed ahead, we'll smash their vessel into a thousand shreds!"

All this commotion brought to life, out of the water, thousands of serpents, winding their sinuous forms through the stream, patiently awaiting a possible meal, should a warrior fall.

A sharp cry rang out. "Below! The cliff!"

Sir Angus whirled to behold an enormous snake with a head larger than that of a horse.

"Let's hope that is the only one! Spear him, men!"

As Sir Angus was sending his own spear in the direction of the beast, a small movement caught his eye, far above.

He looked upwards to see that the colossal tree above them was trembling. At the root of the massive oak, he saw a sight that struck ice through his veins. Two scruffy dwarves were chopping at the bark with tremendous haste. It would soon fall to crush them.

It all became clear then. The boatmen, snakes, and ambush were merely a lure to beckon them into a clever, devilish trap.

"Row back, Jeremy!" Sir Angus screamed. Without question, Jeremy responded with all his might.

Their boat slammed into the riverbank and Sir Angus sprang up to the grass plateau above.

Jeremy followed closely behind.

The two dwarves, unaware of the mad dash of the frantic knights running up the hill, kept chopping.

Sir Angus, sailing through the air with a huge leap, pinned the largest dwarf to the earth, while Jeremy busied the other dwarf, who was terrified at the unexpected assault.

Down below on the river, the barricade finally gave way under the highlander onslaught, and the bowmen were forced to retreat under the heavy rain of Garheim arrows.

And that day, the victory belonged to Garheim.

After going about 12 miles straight out into the open ocean off the southern tip of Baja, our group of 7 divers dove down to 110 to 120 feet beneath the waves on the first of 2 "blue water" deep dives. This was my first experience diving in the deep blue ocean with no visible bottom and a lot of water above and below me. Our goal was to encounter Hammerhead sharks and other pelagic fish species. In this shot my dive buddy, Barbara, shows how we were weightlessly suspended in the deep blue void - Gordo Banks, Sea of Cortez, B.C.S., Mexico

Just another experiment: I took this shot with my Nikon D100 and a superstrong tele zoom. This interstellar cloud of dust, hydrogen gas and plasma is located near the Andromeda Galaxy... Ok, I guess you don't believe me ;-))

So here's the thruth: If you've ever watched a documentary about the universe you might have seen those fascinating nebulae, which I think are true artworks. Since I don't have the equipment to take deep space photographs I tried to create one using Photoshop and a shot of some clouds.

Explored on March 25th! Thanks a lot!

This was a huge pizza. The size around wasn't overly large but it was deep and the toppings were thick. Delicious! I'd have snapped the whole pie but the server was too fast for me.

I do not claim to be anywhere near the level of the fantastically skilled and talented Sally Mann, but this image reminded me of her. I think the lightness is from letting the film develop in the cold.
